A very successful Christian concert tour making it big in secular
venues.

Tickets for two to see a movie called Paper Moon.

I watched The Bad News Bears on cable TV just before the election.

Because contrary to the belief of the idiots in Jesusland, many liberals too
are Christians. Because Christians are not some poor persecuted fringe group
as Dr. Oliver would have us all believe but are in fact a significant
majority composed of well over 100 million Americans. And last of all, but
not least, you wonder why because you have the mind of a small child.

Glad I could clear that up for you.

Probably because alot of them play nice, melodic
music that's enjoyable to listen to and sing along
with.

I've got a few Bill Gaither Choir tapes in my car
that I play a lot -- and sing along with whenever
I hit the roads. Makes the miles just spin by.
Bouncy tunes that, played real loud, are also
great as background for housecleaning chores. I
don't know if I'd pay to see Gaither or buy into
his fundamentalist credo -- but I *DO* buy the
albums at times cause I like the music and know
the words to most of the songs. Simple as that.

For years I've listened to an old album of Sam
Cooke singing gospel songs. Fabulous album that
sold tens of thousands of copies back in a time
when it didn't cross anyone's mind to ask why
Christian-type songs were making inroads into
secular venues. We didn't care. We just liked the
songs is all.

Why not? It's just another genre. It's managed to escape from the
repetitive and sappy 'praise Thee to the skies' cant. Every genre has
its good and bad stuff.

I don't want to be a cowboy, either, but I often listen to Toby
Keith's hymns to testosterone. I'm not gay, but I really enjoy Sarah
Brightman. I'm not 14, either, but some of Shakira's stuff is good.

[Obligatory political throwaway -- In any case, when the FBI is
riffling through our Amazon and library accounts, it won't hurt to
have a few tunes of praise in there to prove we're real Americans.]

I'm so uncool that I actually love that movie. And I'm not ashamed
to admit it.

In case you didn't notice, lots of classical music is
Christian-themed. Tons of Madonna and Child oil paintings, too.

You could start a thread on Christian writing markets over at MWM.
Why don't you? If you gloat at a cocktail party for writers
after a close, hard-fought election, don't be surprised when
someone gets in your face. The next punchdrunk partisan partier
might not be as nice as I am.

I found the page to be interesting in that I would never have bet on
a successful tour based on their music message alone. It surprises
me.

Nothing more. Relax, mate. I wasn't attempting to indoctrinate you
using water torture.

You're surprised? African American gospel music will be a
revelation. And what a huge influence it has had on popular music.

Very true. After I read what you just wrote I recall the impact that
Bob Marley and music from Central America has had on today's music.
Even jazz sometimes had a religious implication in the lyrics.

You see? Even disagreement can result in learning.
