"British blog awards 2003
"The best of British blogging

"The Guardian's second British blog awards found the country's
webloggers in fine form, with last year's high standards maintained.
Simon Waldman, chair of the judges, hands out the accolades"

Reading through the list, I recognized some of the winners.

Best specialist category went to Phil Gyford's Pepys' Diary
<http://www.pepysdiary.com> which has been mentioned here a couple
times. Steve Miller sent me the link on New Year's Day and I wrote about
it here in February and in my May 2003 column.

One of the three winners in the best written category is Stuart Hughes'
Beyond Northern Iraq <http://stuarthughes.blogspot.com>. Stuart Hughes
is a BBC news producer who was blogging away from Northern Iraq until
April 2, when he was injured by a land mine near Kifri. BBC cameraman
Kaveh Golestan, who was with him at the time, died. Hughes was evacuated
and had to have his foot amputated. Hughes blog, which I wrote about in
my June column, is _not endorsed by the BBC.

A Special Judges award was given to Darren Shrubsole's LinkMachineGo
<http://www.timemachinego.com/linkmachinego>. Entertaining site. Maybe
some future column...

Really enjoyed your article. Followed some of the links. Particularly
liked FoundMagazine--the "to do" lists were great. I used to find such odd
notes, recipes, clippings, photos, and transcripts in books when I was
working.

That column included links to several of my favorite kick-start sites.
FOUND Magazine and others there are faves.

e.g.

"yours in horror": Found by deborah grant. "i found this in the sleeve
of a second-hand randy newman record i bought at a market in dublin"

1) Write about a person who buys second-hand Randy Newman records at market.

2) "yours in horror"

On the record sleeve (pictured on the FOUND site), a scribble note in
blue ink:

"PASCHAL, For the good of my
eternal soul and to enable me to meet
several pressing commitments please wake me
(with extreme prejudice if necessary i.e. removal of
blankets, application of water. Ignore
my screams of outrage.
Yours in horror
Niall"

What sort of story could you write about Niall and Paschal and Niall's
"pressing commitments" and about what resulted when Paschal took Niall's
request to wake him "with extreme prejudice if necessary" and "ignore my
screams of outrage."

Or was the note just ... a request, some foreplay for some S&M?
