"dis"...as in disfunctional, and it
became manifested "post" or after
an event or series of events which
were traumatically stressful, so that
we see a _post_traumatic_stress_
dis_order.
They may suffer these symptoms:
Suddenly become angry or irritable.
Have a hard time sleeping.
Have trouble concentrating.
Fear for your safety and always feel on guard.
Be very startled when someone surprises you.
Physical symptoms for no reason you can think of (called somatic
complaints).
Feelings of shame, despair, or hopelessness.
Difficulty controlling your emotions.
Problems with family or friends.
Impulsive or self-destructive behavior.
Changed beliefs or changed personality traits.
Although it must be pointed out that Health
care in America is often just an exercise in
futility, and mental health care may vary
greatly between urban and rural areas of
the country, with outlying areas still not
advanced beyond stereotypical misconceptions.
