Cheapest I've found so far is fifteen bucks for a box of 50
three card sheets - made by Avery.
Anybody know of an office paper supplier doing cheaper
knockoffs of this format that sells online?
Thanks.

Hey Bill,
You actually got the program to work? The version they sent for me to
review early this year would not run reliably enough to evaluate, and
I told the author to let me know when it was ready to test. Never
heard back from him so I've been wondering all these months...
There are probably other companies making index card layouts for laser
use but I'm always leery of off-brands due to the possible jamming
problems etc. I like Avery but then again, it is a bit pricey. I would
think that finding a really good discounted price on Avery could be a
good compromise.
For what it's worth, I buy most of my paper supplies at a local
printer-supply house that has a retail operation, and I get stuff like
Hammermill Laser Print for about 20-25% less than Staples' price, and
that's buying just a ream at a time. Probably even better by the case.
Meanwhile, I've forgotten what the print options are from Writer's
Blocks, but as I recall, ScriptThing (and some others) let you specify
a "non-standard" print layout for cards. That would be something I'd
explore, to make better use of the paper, since, as you know, 3-up
index cards on a full letter-size sheets really waste paper.
Which leads me to this notion: specify some other size, like 4-1/4 x
5-1/2" (one quarter of a page); print out to plain index stock; then
cut the individual cards down after printing.
Cutting the paper into straight quarters won't be much more effort
than tearing apart all those darn laser sheets, I don't think. And $30
gets you a pretty good paper cutter, that obviously can be used for
other stuff for a long time. Buying plain index stock is a LOT cheaper
than what you just described -- like, 1/5 to 1/10 the price, if I
remember correctly. The whole thing would work out even after the
first 40-50 bucks or so, and after that you'd be way ahead.
Plus you can use the remaining full size index stock for script
covers! :-)
Just an idea. I realize it's not web-based but I personally never
found much value in buying paper mail order, because it's heavy and
the shipping cost usually negates any price savings. Hope this helps.
Oops, one more thought... Quill is a fairly low-price mail-order place
I've used that always seemed to have its own brand of things like
this. Might be worth checking out.
