I have heard it called "Conastoga" or something like that, but I have no
idea how it is spelled.

And where would I find out more about it?

thanx

Conestoga...not sure if that's the way you spell it or not either. Like the old
pioneer wagons. Pretty slick deal, I know a couple of guys that have them. You
should be able to do a search and come up with something.
They had some problems with them at first, some states like Illinois were
giving tickets out for being over width due to part of the curtain assembly
sticking out from the side of the trailer. Have heard that has been resolved as
of now. They convinced the powers that be that the curtain assembly was a
safety device and therefore allowed to protude.
Of course Truckinsp and the other gestapo will have to weigh in on it for this
to be official.
I used to pull a Taughtliner and that was ok too, if a bit heavy. Biggest
problems came from van freight shippers not believing the sidewalls would
prevent freight from falling through. That and forklift drivers having to be
careful about the roof while loading units of lumber. You don't have a roof
with a Conestoga though so that won't enter in.
Loaded some rolls of fiberglass insulation one time and they bulged the
sidewalls out a bit. Stopped in a rest area in Wyoming and had a trooper give
me a bad time for being overwidth. I sure wish I had a job where I had to
search that hard for something to annoy me.

Thanks and yes a search works better the way you spell Conestoga than the
way I spelled it.

I know what a Covered Wagon is. They even look like Covered Wagons with the
bowed arch on the top instead of a flat top.

A "Conestoga" with it being flat on top, looks a lot more like a Van than it
does a real "Covered Wagon." The first time I saw one, I had to look close
because it looked like a Van that used fabric instead of metal for the sides
and the top.

As for the your description of "tautliner" it sounds like you are describing
what I know of as a "Curtain Side."

thanx

Ricky Roads . . . . Now I wonder if I should change my name to Rocky

The system he is referring to is a totally retractable tarp system that is
on rollers and aluminum bars attached to the side rails and will cover a
full load and space just as a van trailer would. It retracts to the front
of the trailer, taking up a space of about four feet when retracted, and
folds up much like an accordian, as he stated.

It is officially the "Conestoga 2000" tarp system:

New, the system is about $13,000 in US dollars, which I couldn't see
spending at the time. At least it was last year, when I checked into it.

Utility is merely an outlet for sales of the system and installation of it
as well on a new trailer. They do not manufacture the system.

What's your point? The question posed had nothing to do with what a covered
wagon was or is. It was specifically about the Conestoga system....

Why go any further?

Tony gave me the answer I was looking for.

I do not care about "Old English" only what people I deal with call them
now.

You had better start driving again, you knowledge is getting too old.

Thank you Tony,

That is exactly what I was looking for.

As for taking your advise, well, I certainly tried to, but my fuse is
shorter than it used to be.

I have calmed down for a while, so I doubt if there will be any more vents
for a while either.

thanx

This is a great place to vent. Better here than where it could do you harm.

Remember one thing. The worst thing that can happen in here to you is that
you might endure a bit of criticism, and while it might sting a little bit,
nothing anyone offers can harm you.

Don't be afraid to vent. That's what everyone does, in one way or another.

Well, Tony, obviously you have missed most of Bullis' posts. If the
newies and wannabes followed just a fraction of his advice they'd be
dead, or in jail by now!

I haven't missed one of them...in this group anyway.

You're missing the fact that Bullis and the Rookie are two separate people.

Tony, you were absolutely correct when you told Tim the above but as you can
see from what Tim posted about one month later, that did not stop Tim's
bullshit at all..

Regardless of the fact that nobody at all thought I was Richard, even Tim
himself, Tim would post the following about 1 month later:
"Most of us here at MTT think your real name is RICHARD BULLIS!"

And then just 3 days after that, Jeff/Zeke would start posting with my name
and e-mail address and Tim has never quit fucking with me from that day on.

Once the Trolls started working together it was hopeless for years, and the
shit still might be flying around today if it wasn't for bbelly, you and
Skateboard'n in that order.
