Description: Road and highway transportation.

Upshur County/Buckhannon, WV and Corridor H
As a faithful longtime follower of MTR and all things roadgeek, my time is long past due to start participating in MTR discussions, as I have only very infrequently in the past. To start, I would like to give my own opinions on Corridor H, from a local perspective. I am orginially from, and live in New Jersey, but grew up in Upshur... more »

"Official" west end of US 66 designated
Wednesday night, NBC had a 30-second piece on the US highway system. Brian Williams said, "You'd be forgiven for not knowing it, but today marks the 83rd anniversary of this nation's system of numbered highways." (That would be November 11, 1926, which is a date I believe I've seen elsewhere. Roadgeeks at NBC, out yourselves here!) The point... more »

Gas Prices in the Midwest?
What can I expect, generally? Gonna take a massive dump all over the midwest in less than 4 weeks. Chicago->Toledo, Toledo-> STL, STL -> Dallas, Dallas -> Omalol, Omaha - ...the listed cities. I budgeted 25 mi/ga @ $3/ga. My understanding is that gas prices are traditionally low in the midwest but would like confirmation.... more »

This past weekend's Vegas trip.
Went to Vegas this past weekend for a wedding. Some observations: ** The I-15 northbound Zzyzx Road exit is mis-signed as Exit 23. (It's Exit 239.) ** Major WTF: All of the exits on I-15 between Ontario and the state line have exit numbers now. The odd thing is that both of I-15's rest areas between Barstow and Vegas are ALSO signed with exit numbers!... more »

Google Maps Signs TN-385 as I-269
Recently Google Maps was updated to show TN-385 marked as I-269. Has TDOT started signing TN-385 as I-269 or is Google jumping the gun on labeling the outer loop as I-269? 73 Dan W1VXA [link]

Surveillance footage of Bay Bridge S-Curve accident
CalTrans has surveillance footage of Monday's Bay Bridge accident. Around 3:30am, watch for the big rig coming from the left of your screen. The driver definitely appeared to be speeding... YIKES. [link] Cheers, Carl Rogers "Environment first, transportology second"... more »

Operation Emboss: 30.11%
Hi Viatologists, Photographs equal knowledge. As of 11-Nov-2009, the Worldwide Transportation Library (WWTL) has watermarked 30.11% of its road photographs. Through the Operation Emboss initiative, the WWTL will lift its ban on JPG file-sharing once every photo has been watermarked. Operation Emboss is our way of distributing knowledge to the viatology community... more »

Corridor H field check/update
After some hiking in Maryland on Sunday (to the highest point in Maryland, amongst other places), I headed home via the Corridor H area. Posted an update on the blog, but in a nutshell, there's more grading/bridgework being done between Scherr and Forman, the interchange at CR 5 in Forman will be a folded diamond, and paving... more »
