-Future I-49 is shown as being proposed, running from the AR 245/Arkansas
Blvd interchange in Texarkana to the northeast, crossing I-30 then heading
due north, then due west into Texas, crossing US 59-71 about halfway between
AR 108 and AR 296. It then turns to the northwest, crossing the Red River
back into the Wonder State west of Ogden, then turning due north and
bypassing Ashdown and Wilton just to the west, curving east to meet US 71
just north of Wilton. Nothing is shown north of here, but the current
structure over the Little River will be widened and I-49 will be routed
along this structure. I wonder how they'll handle the intersection with AR
234 (former AR 27), which is a T intersection elevated far above the Milwood
Lake floodplain below on the earthen causeway. It will definitely be
interesting. This means that 2008 is the year that I-49 first appeared on
an official AHTD state highway map.
-US 412 now 4 lanes undivided from AR 141 to the Missouri line near
Paragould.
-AR 112 now 4 lanes undivided from AR 102 to US 71B in Bentonville.
-AR 94 decommissioned from I-540 to US 71B in Rogers.
-AR 5 shown as 4 lanes divided (way to go AHTD!) between US 67-167 and AR 89
west of Cabot.
-This was actually on last year's map as well, but there's a Future I-555
shield shown on US 63 north of AR 226 in Jonesboro. I thought I-555 was
supposed to end at the US 49 south junction.
The map can be ordered for free at www.arkansashighways.com.
AR 5 *is* 4 lanes divided near Cabot, but last time I was there, they were
still finishing up.
94 decommission may be any day now. AHTD is wrapping up the Pinnacle Hills
exit
