** The I-15 northbound Zzyzx Road exit is mis-signed as Exit 23. (It's
Exit 239.)
** Major WTF: All of the exits on I-15 between Ontario and the state
line have exit numbers now. The odd thing is that both of I-15's rest
areas between Barstow and Vegas are ALSO signed with exit numbers!
I've never seen exit numbers at rest areas, anywhere else.
** Mountain Pass is much nicer to drive now that the freeway has been
widened.
Quotables:
#1. Me, to my five-year-old daughter: "Look, Eryne, we're entering
Baker. Over on your left is the world's tallest thermometer."
My wife, to me: "Good thing it's not a rectal thermometer!"
----------------
#2. The five-year-old, upon seeing a double-decker tour bus on the
Strip, with an open upper floor: "Dad, that's a bus with no lid!"
----------------
#3 The teenage son, upon seeing a mobile billboard advertising a strip
club: "NAKED GIRLS ON A TRUCK!"
Then, a few minutes later: "MORE NAKED GIRLS ON A TRUCK!"

There are a few I've seen marked as "Exit nnn".
Not sure where I saw them but I think maybe along I-10 in either NM or TX.
That's obviously in California. ;-)

That's been standard practice for TxDOT since at least the late 1990s. (Two
rest areas on I-10 east of Seguin were at Exit 621 on both sides, but were
rebuilt two miles westward six or seven years ago, and are now at Exit 619.
The old westbound Exit 621 is now a truck weight-check station.)

We've been to Vegas twice, about a decade ago, and I got used to that in
very little time. ;-)

I remember that in Texas, I think. But Caltrans is at least doing it
consistently; I see exit numbers for rest areas on I-10 and I-80 also.

Naturally he'd see those ...

I have seen a rest area with an exit number on I-80 in Utah.

Utah used to use exit numbers on rest areas, along with big green
signs on the ramps. No more -- they've removed the exit numbers, at
least on I-15, and the signs are smaller and blue.

Makes sense. It's a recent change, and UDOT mainly changes/updates
signs when they are doing road work.
