A lot of new material at All Things NC! in this fall's update. Not as much
as the one Steve Alpert had a few weeks ago but still plenty of stuff.

http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/

First the new stuff:

Charlotte's Independence Boulevard:
http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/charlotte/indblvd/index.html

Independence Blvd. in Charlotte was the city's and the state's first major
highway. Today, as Charlotte continues to grow, many changes have been made
to the highway. Here you can take a look at photos from when the highway
first opened in the 50s, take an aerial view from the mid-60s, and Chris
Curley leads a tour of what's left of Independence Blvd. today. You'll be
surprised what's leftover.

Elwell Ferry: http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/ferry/elwell.html

The Elwell Ferry across the Cape Fear River in Bladen County is one of three
remaining inland river ferries in the state.

Sunset Beach Pontoon Bridge:
http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/bridges/sunset.html

This is perhaps the most unique bridge in the state. The one lane wooden
deck bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway draw portion of the bridge
actually floats away to allow ships to pass.

Oak Island - An All Things NC Destination:
http://www.geocities.com/aprince27/oakisland/

Take a look at one of Brunswick County's beach destinations.

Carolina Lost is now official! http://www.gribblenation.com/nclost/

A few things to go with the new index.

Bridges - Graham Elementary Pedestrian Bridge from Lyndon Young -
http://www.gribblenation.com/nclost/bridges/ped.html
Buildings - A rarely used weigh station on US 29/74 in Western Mecklenburg
County, again from Lyndon Young -
http://www.gribblenation.com/nclost/buildings/weigh.html
Miscellaneous - An old Pepsi Ad from Craig Zeni, Some old Gas Pumps from
Eric Sills, and a Flying A Service leftover from myself -
http://www.gribblenation.com/nclost/buildings/weigh.html

Now for some updated material:

Interstate 40 History: http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/history/i40.html

New information on the decision making process in routing I-40 from I-85 in
Hillsborough to Research Triangle Park. The approved route for I-40 in
December 1968 was to have the Interstate follow what is now NC 147 down to
current day I-40 and then onto Raleigh. In the Spring of 1969, the FHWA
requested that NCDOT improve the proposed route by adding lanes and
eliminating ramps or interchanges. As a result, NCDOT did a corridor study
with six alternatives in 1970. The update includes a scan of all six
corridors, descriptions of the possible routings, and the eventual decision
made. Many thanks to Mike Tantillo for allowing me to borrow the 1970
Corridor Study and the 1973 DEIS for this corridor.

Interstate 485 Construction Photos:
http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/charlotte/485/

A revamped page and new photos of the current construction of the Northwest
Loop from Lyndon Young. That page is:
http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/charlotte/485/nwest.html

North Carolina State Highway Ends: http://www.state-ends.com/ncends/state/

A lot of new photos from the Southeast Corner of the state.
New pages for NC 118, 172, 210, 411, and 905.
Missing termini added for NC 11, 30, 38, 72, 102, 131, 153, 171, 242, and
904.
New photos added to NC 111 and 217.
Bonus coverage of SC 9 and 145 added.

Many thanks to Doug Kerr, Mike Roberson and Lyndon Young for their photos.
Heck, I snuck quite a few of my own in there myself!

US Highway Ends in NC: http://www.state-ends.com/ncends/us/index.html

New pages for US 74 and US 76. And updates to US 301. Thanks to Doug and
Mike for their photos.

North Carolina Roundabouts: http://www.state-ends.com/ncends/us/index.html

Two roundabouts from Gaston County taken by Lyndon Young.

Submitted Sign Gallery - http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/subs/index.html

38 photos from all over the state taken by Doug Kerr, Chris Curley, Brent
White, Billy Coore and Lyndon Young.

Webmaster's Sign Gallery -
http://www.gribblenation.com/ncpics/various/varied.html

13 photos from my vacation last May.

Next up, catch my breath, then Alabama/Georgia/Florida and onto Virginia.
Thanks to all the contributors and enjoy!

Note: I wanted to parody Carl Rogers in this announcement, but you all know
I couldn't pull off appearing to be that smart. :-p
