Does anyone know what is the new font that PennDOT is using? I have seen
is used primarily on those yellow 'Slow Down, Save a Life', 'Don't
Tailgate', and 'Beware of Aggressive Drivers' signs, but I have seen it on
a few other green signs as well (on I-476 bridge over the Schuylkill comes
to mind at the moment...)

The font isn't FHWA E Modified, nor does it appear to be Helvetica. Any
ideas???

It's Clearview.

Clearview, which hasn't made too much of an impact in District 11 or 12 here
in Southwestern PA.

The font is called Clearview, and I don't particularly like its numeric
construction, being partial to the FHWA number styles myself. The text
itself isn't too bad.

I don't know how much PennDOT is consistent in its use.

When I had my interview with Jere Downs of The Philadelphia Inquirer,
one of our topics was the new "Clearview" sign font. She told me about
studies the new font more was legible to older drivers than the existing
FHWA series.

On and off I've seen this font-Mostly on services signs out my way. Personally,
I don't like it. The signs don't look "Real"
Mr Yamamoto of Hollywood

Clearview has been popping up everywhere around Scranton. Did not notice it
as much around the Lehigh Valley, Reading and Philly though. Speaking of
PennDOT innovations, have the big white dots made it anywhere besides I-80
around Stroudsburg? Basically, they want you to keep a minimum of one dot
behind the vehicle in front of you, and this is for a road that is already
too congested.

Whatever it is, it makes the signs look like some14 year old made them on
his computer using MSPAINT, printed them out, and put them up.

US 220 outside of State College (actually, through Port Matilda) sports
both the white dots and an abundance of signs lettered with the
"Clearview" typeface. I like Clearview. IMHO, the shapes of the
individual characters are a little more distinct than FHWA E-modified.
I find them easier to read at a distance.

If you like Clearview go to Toronto. The city recently began using
Clearview for all their highway and street signage. I really think
Clearview is ugly, sort of a knocked-off version of the British highway
font.
