The second part of the PA Road Photos and More spring update has a little
bit of everything.

PA Keystone Town Signs - http://www.gribblenation.com/papics/keystone/

I know that French Appreciation Month has passed but there is some French
history in some of the new town markers. 15 new town markers have been
added including a handful whose names come from French settlers or French
origin. The only thing, I'm not going to waste your time attempting to
speak French (read: Babelfish). Thanks to Ken Hartman, Rob Tomcannin, Kevin
Snyder, Jeff Klugh, Doug Kerr and Jeff Kitsko.

Now some new stuff:

Excerpts from the 1967 PA MUTCD -
http://www.gribblenation.com/papics/mutcd/1967.html

John Krakoff sent along a few samples from the 1967 PA MUTCD. I think this
may have been when the state switched away from cutouts. Also, there's a
very unique Welcome to PA guide sign that was only used on Interstates and
are not used today.

PA Engineering Marvels - Kinzua Viaduct:
http://www.gribblenation.com/papics/eng/kinzua.html

The story behind one of the greatest rail bridges in our country and the
tragic aftermath after it was severely damaged by a tornado in July 2003.

PA Submitted Sign Gallery: http://www.gribblenation.com/papics/pasubs/

Many new photos including over 25 of I-279 (including removed button copy)
and I-276 taken in 2001 from John Krakoff. Look for more 2001 Pittsburgh
photos from Steve Alpert in the coming weeks. Also, when did US 250 get
signed in PA?...well Pete Zapadka explains why.

Vintage PA Turnpike Collection:

A 1978 photo of approaching the Allegheny Tunnel from Gary Ballard

Lehigh Tunnel Construction 1989-91:
http://www.gribblenation.com/breezewood/lehigh.html

A photo of the completed tunnel from Doug Kerr

PA Ends: http://www.state-ends.com/paends/state/index.html

New photos added to ten routes: PA 38, 56, 259, 436, 555, 791, 819, 830,
950, and 981.

Many thanks to Jeff Kitsko, John Revelli, and Clint Godlesky.

So what's next? New York then GA/FL/TN and then South Carolina.

Enjoy!

Without looking, I'm gonna guess why.

In September of 2004, after the remnants of Hurricane (mumble) moved up the Ohio
Valley, there was lots of flooding in portions of West Virginia, Ohio and
Pennsylvania.

Ignore the typo of "floot" instead of "flood." US 250 in the Littleton area had
been closed due to flooding and damage to the substandard bridges in the area
and a detour was posted using WV 69 north into Pennsylvania, then coming back
into WV on WV 891. Part of my goal for this roadtrip was to clinch US 250 in WV
and the night before, staying in the Roanoke, VA area, I had seen on WVDOT's Web
site that US 250 was closed. I had mapped out a route using back roads that
would get me up to either side of the closed bridge and was going to walk across
the bridge to say I had clinched US 250, but apparently 250 got opened up
earlier that day.

Am I right? Going to Adam's page now to check...
