No !
Where on earth did you get that idea?
Bogies (trucks) were never exchanged on scheduled passenger services in
Australia. An ill-fated Queensland Rail tourist train occasionally did a
bogie exchange to run a tour on southern state tracks.

I read something about that when I took the Ghan ten years
ago. I don't recall if it was a book, or map/brochure.
How did the trains get cross country before it was all one gauge?
Wiki can be unreliable, but try this and scroll down to "Development
of the national network".

They didn't. Sydney to Perth.....
Change trains to Vic Rail at Albury; change to Overlander in Mebourne for
overnight journey to Adelaide. Change to Adelaide to Port Pirie 5'3"
train, change to Commonwealth Railways to Kalgoorlie WA. Change to
WestRail Kalgoorlie to Perth. 5 Days plus in all - good fun when you
were young especially the 3-4am change at Albury, then spend most of the
day in Melb before departing to Adelaide. Pretty well continuous from
there on till Perth (well a few hours for each change while the baggage
is trans-shipped at each change).
All gone now.
