does it happen often, that woodchip carriers carry other cargoes (such
as coal, etc.)
when full load of heavier (than woodchips) cargo is loaded on such a
ship the full deadweight may be used, while the cargo holds volume
utilization is relatively small
is it economical to use woodchip carriers for other cargoes?
is the market low for woodchip carriers at present and therefore they
have to seek other cargoes?
tahank you in advance for help and information

The wood chip trades are not a two way trade, so it could be that the coal
voyage is a repositioning movement, so that the coal voyage may put the ship
in position for its next woodchip cargo.
The market now has rallied from earlier in the year so it is decent but not
great. The shipowners will calculate the per diem return, and will take
whatever cargo provides that return
Chip carriers are built with high cubic factor. The ship will hit her marks
(ie will utilize its deadweight) before the holds are filled up and that is
economical. There may be stowage issues however re cargo shifting when a
heavy cargo is used.
