Air France 447
...AF 447 was an overnight flight. Unless there were aliens with flashlights strong enough to illuminate the sky AND ocean surface, this picture depicts a daytime scene and was likely shot in a studio. Seriously though, considering the tail fin broke off relatively cleanly, I am reminded of the AA A300 crash in New York in 2001. Is it possible... more »

Southwest starts service at LGA
Southwest announced is is starting service from New York's La Guardia airport. Initially, flights to Chicago and Baltimore. Is this the end of ISLIP service for WN ? Will this hurt Jetblue whish is at JFK ? Or are transportation options for JFK now sufficiently good to make JFK competitive with LGA ?... more »

787 gets another delay
They found structural problem with in the upper side of wing/body join. It will be several weeks before they can set a date for first flight and the new first delivery. Virgin's purchase of 330s and now talks to buy 350s is probably due to this. And there I was, confident that Boeing had finally worked through the... more »

Republic Airways to buy out Frontier Airlines
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 [link] We all knew that FFT was running all this time in Ch. 11, but I surely wasn't expecting RAH to buy them out totally, especially after FFT dropped the regional service contract with one of their airlines,... more »

Virgin orders 10 A330s
Virgin Atlantic, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, has placed an order for 10 330-200s. 5 Delivered in 2011, 5 in 2012. Why ? Because it can't wait for the Boeing 787s. Its order for 15 787s remains. I suspect Virgin may have gotten some compensation deal from Boeing whereby Virgin agreed to relinquish early 787 delivery slots (so Boeing... more »

Black Box Recovery - Why Not Transmit?
...Newsgroups: alt.disasters.aviation ...1) To an approximation, the A/C was transmitting data to the home base. That's the primary basis of what the guesses about what happened are about. 2) Since customers enjoy (and are willing to pay for) telephone and internet services while in flight, there is the potential of having plenty... more »

Paris Air Show
I know the market is depressed but... This is the 100th Paris Air Show, so this should be noted. It was said that if they rack up more than 100 net orders, it will be considered a success. Airbus has sold 24 to Qatar. No susprise there. The susprise may be Sukhoi. It appears that its Superjet 100 is th... more »

How do you replace a 757?
The 757-200 is quite an airplane, seating 200 people with a 3900 mile range, making it quite the plane of choice for long thin routes. The closest thing that Boeing has in production is the 737-700 which flies 126 people 3300 miles, or the -700ER which is 5500 miles, but still only 126 people. The A321 has the range, if you pay for it, but it still smaller.... more »
