Qantas is negotiating with Boeing for improvements in the 777-300ER to
compete against the Airbus 350-1000. Qantas wants a 10% improvement in
performance, saying it can be done with upgrades in materials, engines
and aerodynamics (with implied reduction in weight).

Qantas says that total replacement of 777 is not expected before
2020-2025 so imporvements have to be made to the existing 777.

The new aircraft would be called 777-300ERX.

This is interesting since it is one of the first time where we see
concrete evidence that the Airbus 350 is starting to be taken seriously.

Dixon also said that the 787 flight testing should begin in early November.
