these things as if they sound silly when mentioned together. But you
are only thinking about the world in which you inhabit and not
actually
looking at the entire world. There are 6.7 billion people on the
planet, Alan, the vast majority of which are not as fortunate as
yourself. These people are living in the world which you describe
above and they have always inhabited such a world. They will always
inhabit that sort of world, too, because there isn't any hope
whatsoever for these people to gain even the minimal luxuries that

or I take for granted.
Optimists look at the world in a very narrow sense without any
consideration of the global context or a larger time scale.
Your world might last, Alan, but the suffering will continue to
suffer,
the oppressed will remain in oppression, the dying will keep on
dying,
and the deprived shall remain unsatisfied.

matter. They'll be dead soon enough."
The Pollyannas are looking out for their own self and their own self
only. If they can cling to their wealth, their careers, their
technology, and their luxuries they will claim that everything is
fine
even if the rest of the world passes away.
I suspect that you are going to lose everything, Alan. I think that
your hopeful vision won't lead to the happy outcome which you seek.
But we'll just have to wait and see about it, won't we?
The catastrophic scenario appears to be materializing right now, so
we
may not need to wait so very long.
