Income Tax filing status for parents, one in nursing home.

My Mother entered a nursing home in Oct. 2011 after suffering a massive stroke. The home is paid for by Medicaid. Can my Mom and Dad still file jointly and both claim the personal exemption or does my Dad have to file Married filing separately? Any help would be great.

They're still eligible to file Married Filing Jointly.
