The site is up that shows the little cottage/cabin that I built on my land
for use as a guest cottage.

The cabin is 8'x12', is heated by a 10,000 btu kerosene heater, and is 100%
off grid power wise. I will be installing a couple of deep cycle batteries
and a small solar panel to recharge the batteries. For now light is provided
by a dynamo powered LED lantern, a "Stick-up bulb" (as seen on TV), and a
couple of kerosene hurricane lanterns.

This cabin design can be used as a cashe, cabin, retreat, or small vacation
cottage. This type of building can also be used as a shed, storage building,
and can even be adapted as an addition to a house (where codes allow).

So far, my costs are just under $600, however I have not finished the inside
paneling and trim, but that should only cost just under $200 and I will
complete that in the spring.

The site is still a work in progress as well as the cottage, and I'll be
adding to the site as a can.

Enjoy,

Thanks for the link.

We own some land in eastern KY and this looks like a "do-able" weekend
retreat. Again thanks. Perhaps I will get to use my slavaged PC arrays.

Looks good. I'd plant some scrubby stuff around it to block the wind and
the sun, and to makeit less visible.

Really, you're going to use the site as a can? Or will the addition be
the can?

the building looks very useful. Far more comfortable than a tent, and
far more secure. It (the building) does need a few things. And your
web site needs a better proof reader. But, that doesn't change the
fact that the building looks useful.

I'd stick another pier in the center of that cabin and
make another door. When a bear comes in one you can run out
the other.

I'm adding on another room, that's why the window is located where it is.

More piers will be added at that time.

LOL that should have read "as I can", if you wouldn't top post, we'd know
what you are talking about.

Yes I agree that the building needs a few things, however it fits my needs
just fine, as a guest cottage so my guests will have a comfortable place to
sleep that doesn't inconvince my kids. I'm adding an 8'x8' room on this
spring, that's why the window is located where it is.

I'm leaving the back wall windowless because I want to shelve the entire
back wall for storage. I'm planning on adding a window to the other side
wall, as well as next to the door. All in good time, and the sooner that I
hit the junk yard and get some windows out of an old junk camper or
trailer-home, the sooner I will get it done.

Why buy windows, when I can get them for dirt cheap or even free.

What's wrong with the old fashioned hole in the ground out house? I
thought you were getting back to nature. Maybe not, nature means
woodstove, and conveniences include kerosene and propane.

What's the advantage with the chemical toilet?

Back to nature ??? You must have me confused with a hippie. The advantages
with the chem toilet for me are the fact that I don't have to buy a permit
for a privy. They cost the same as the septic permit and have to undergo the
same paper work and inspection. The way around all this nonsense is to
simply use a chemtoilet. Post TEOTW, who's going to worry about permits ?
