3, or to just discuss, or talk, have meetings, hold
press conferences, scratch ass, pick nose, call out
for lunch, check Blackberry, turn the channel to the
game, make plans to stay with friends over the
weekend, etcetera fucking etcetera. The second biggest
group of criminals in the news this week stole more
money than a million looters could have, albeit not in

is that we all now have a pretty good idea of how Iraq

And I can scrub out my dishes with this new rap DVD that I borrowed
from Wal-mart.
And those nice wonderful medics they sent in the ambulance to help
evacuate the elderly. I sure am glad they put my next fix on there!
I'm so happy that my gun went off and I hit that poor national guardsmen
in the leg. My bad.
And I was protecting my brothers and sisters from those aliens
in the helicopters when I fired on them.
And I sure did save those old folks from the nursing home
by carjacking their van. The really did need the exercise that

The fact is that these people are career criminals who live this way

Hurricane Katrina, a Category V Hurricane approaches our
coast south of New Orleans, beginning on August 28, 2005
and continuing. The affected areas include all the
southeastern parishes including the City of New Orleans
directly impacted by the brunt of the storm and the mid
state and northern parishes accepting the thousands of
citizens forced to evacuate from the impacted areas
directly affected by Hurricane Katrina.

hurricane and based on the anticipated damages in the
impacted areas including New Orleans Metropolitan region,
I am requesting an increase of the Federal cost share
from 75% to 100% for Individual Assistance, Public

local governments will assume te applicable non-Federal

This is repeat of a question I asked back in July in a
thread with the subject, "Thanks Bush! We're Safer:"
Is even the most liberal-hating, hardcore conservative,
in his heart of hearts, really comfortable with the idea
of Bush being the go-to guy in times of serious trouble?

And it was probably wise to use coaches instead of buses
for the long trip to Houston -- the toilet facilities in
the larger coaches would have been badly needed,
especially for people who had gone without for most of
the week. Also the storage areas of the coaches would have
greatly aided in letting the evacuees keep what may well
be the only remnants of their old lives. Louisiana's own
shelters away from the damage were all filled up almost
immediately.
And those reporters? Some like Shepard Smith were in the
midst of things for the entire week and their growing
frustration, anger, disbelief, and even tears towards the
Federal response as the week grew old said as much as the
raw videos did.
I just hope the f*ck something, anything good eventually
comes from this. A lesson, Bush being tossed, something,
whatever....

1 and 2. Because the Mayor and Governor have access to the Police and
National Guard and a way to enforce those orders right now. The President
doesn't have the same resources available to him to enforce those orders at
a moments notice, it would take at least 72 hours to move people in, by then
it is too late. What was needed was a local response with a request for a
Federal response to follow. What went wrong was the mayor barked an order
but never followed through with buses, whether they were school buses,
coaches, or little red wagons.
He did nothing to help with the Emergency Plan that every city has. They all
have one. If you don't believe it, find the webpage for the area where you
live and search for EMA or ESDA and you should be able to find some links to
what your area Emergency Plan is. Hopefully you have someone in chatrge who
will be able to follow through.
As for the "Fill in the blanks", 1) evacuate immediately, actually this
order was quite clear, 2) I order you to heed your Mayor's advice 3) I don't
think anyone would listen to any orders coming from a Senator but if they
did, I order you to heed your Governor's advice. 4) heed the advice of your
local authorities.
As you could see, it's easy to give orders. Even you and I could do that.
The only one who could have made it work was the Mayor. He wasn't up to the
task.

Yes. I think I'm ok with Bush being the go-to guy. Yeah, I'm ok with that. I
like the way he handles things, once he makes a commitment he doesn't change
his mind with the way the wind blows. If it wasn't him, then it would have
been Al Gore or John Kerry. Yeah, I'm ok with him being the go-to guy in
times of trouble, all things considered.
Now here's a question for you, answer it if you dare.
Question #1
Which option would save the most lives: (hint: there may be more than one
correct answer, choose appropriately)
A) Stay informed, have an emergency kit that will sustain you for a minimum
of 72 hours, don't rely on anyone to save something as important as your
life for you
B) Order evacuations but don't evacuate anyone
C) Order people into the Superdome, but do not have any food, water or
toilets for them.
D) Wait until after the storm and cry about how nobody is doing anything
E) Order mandatory evacuations for everyone but police and EMS, request
National Guard from Governor, enforce the evacuations, stock the emergency
shelter with basic necessities for sustaining life for 72 hours, provide
police protection at the shelters, personally oversee the evacuation
including driving through the streets of town picking up those without
transportation and driving them inland and to higher ground, coordinating
mutual aid to have food, water, and facilities at the destination, etc. etc.
