i almost always use my iphone in portrait mode.
sometimes i tip a bit to the side, and it goes through the
annoying pause of thinking i requested landscape mode,
flipping the graphics, pausing for a moment, realizing i am
still in portrait, and then redrawing the graphics again.

how can i turn of that tilt-for-landscape feature?

or at least, reduce the sensitivity, or put a bit longer delay
before it redraws?

thanks!

I know what you mean, If I'm lying on my side in bed and pick up the
phone it switches to landscape whilst I want it in portrait.

What's it do if it's layed down on its back on a table and you're looking
down on it from above....and you rotate it around to show the person seated
next to you on the table? Does that make it flip?

there's a way to do it if you jailbreak.

No, it only works when the phone is vertical or nearly so, how would it
know what orientation it is to the viewer when lying flat?

Unfortunately, you can't. "Think Different" and stop trying to use your
phone at angles not envisioned by the designers.

The above not withstanding, I believe there is a program in the
jailbreak world that will do what you're asking. I haven't jailbroken
yet, so I'm not really certain of the details.

It IS a smartphone of indescribable design and artificial intelligence.
I'd suspect it to turn on its camera and look at your face. Anything less
would be a horrible mistake, it being a real Apple product and all. As you
slid it across the table, it would see your friend's face upside down from
yours and make the appropriate adjustment, silently, effortlessly in the
twinkling of an eye, hardly noticable to either of you it happens so fast.

It is, after all, not just any old smartphone. It's an Apple! Just ask
anyone!

Ask Vic!
or Michelle!

Yes there's a jailbreak app that does it.

Two jailbreak apps. I just installed Rotation Inhibitor (free)
yesterday. There's a toggle in SBSettings that turns rotate on an off. I
don't know how I lived without it.

Thanks all. I'm not jailbroken, so looks like i'm up a creek.
oh well. I'll request that feature in the next software update,
i'm sure apple will hop right on that.

Why thank you, Michelle. It's the nicest thing you've ever said about me.

SBSettings alone is worth jailbreaking...

You mean you actually think you know what you want more than Apple knows
what you want and need????

Come on now -- customizing features for your personal use? You must be
kidding... it's an Apple!!

While in portrait mode, tip the picture on the screen and hold for a few
seconds. The portrait mode will be kept, irrespectively the position of
the iPhone. The same goes for the landscape mode.

What does "tip the picture on the screen" mean?

This mechanism does probably not work with any app., but it works with

Don't know where you're from, Henk, but your English is much better than my
Spanish, which is the only language other than English I know a little of.
