I have a 13-month old iphone whose battery is going bad.

After a year I remembered that getting the extra-year service is a good
value (mainly because it would pay for itself if a new battery was
needed). BUT when I called to order it I was just a few days over the
year and they would not sell it to me.

Now it's a month later and my battery is clearly going bad.

Is therte ANY way you might suggest that I can get Apple to acknowledge
they sold me a weak battery?

Did you escalate your request?

AppleCare is $59,
Their genuine battery replacement service is $85,

<http://www.apple.com/batteries/replacements.html>

That's 26 dollars difference. Or to put it another way, $2 "lost" per
month for the following year after the battery swap operation.

What's 2 dollars? It's half a pint of Beer here.

How much did this toy cost you?

17 million sold to date.

Imperfect yes, but not poor design.

and third parties offer battery replacement for much less.

If he just squeezes the fruitphone, it'll short out the battery, set fire
to the PoS and Apple will give him a new one before his lawyer can file
against them.

Is there a problem? His battery HAS a history of shorting out, right?!

With minimal use, It takes a SIGNIFICANTLY shorter time for the battery
to discharge. In the last few days the battery has gone completely
dead twice (again, with minimal use).

Not having a user removable and replacable battery was a poor choice.

I'm quite supprised that someone hasn't yet designed a replacement
slighty thicker rubberised rugged case with a battery port and other
hardware goodies.

I'd like one for my original iPod touch - something that adds a speaker
(or two!) so I can pass it around socially without the use of earphones.

do you have any apps that use push notifications? you can try turning
all of that off (settings app) and see if that makes any difference.

you can also bring the phone to an apple store where they can run some
diagnostics and determine the health of the battery. checking it is
free but replacement out of warrant won't be, however, there are third
party replacement options that are much cheaper than apple.

Ah, think you mean't

Thanks. Interesting products, but I'm thinking of some product that rips
out the original case and battery. Remember the recasing craze for
mobile phones.

Try mophie.com - that seems to answer the question and could be an easy
typo.
