It was.

That would have been obvious even if you had not.

No one bothered to prove something that
basic, essentially because if it really was a virus,
it wouldn't just affect the slider and nothing else.

Yes, that's certainly important information.

Sure, but that's an entirely separate matter to the point I was
making, that its very unlikely to be a VIRUS, because a VIRUS
is very unlikely to affect JUST the slider and nothing else.

One obvious possibility is that is a quirk of an update
to the software that only affects a subset of iphones.
A subset in the sense of a particular hardware detail
that is only seen in a subset of even that model.
Its certainly possible that the initial setup phase
that the software goes thru when the iphone is
starting from scratch has a problem with some
of the hardware that sees the slider inactive
while its having that difficult and once it has
decided to say just ignore that, everything else
works fine.
