There was a short piece on NPR on the the change in Korea from the
Japanese system they have been using to a Western model. The Western
system is based on formatted street names and sequential numbering.
The Japanese stem is based on blocks or neighborhoods where the
buildings are numbered in the temporal order of their construction.
Gaps are not closed if a building is removed.
While the new system is easier to use, there is opposition from
Buddhists groups! They are worried that historical street and
neighborhood names with religious references will disappear.
Think we have problems going Metric in the US? :)
