I am a middle aged male in Kentucky U.S.A., was involved in a
motorcycle accident at age twenty (1981), which seriously and
permanently injured three of my limbs (plates, screws and multiple
fractures). I attempted to receive Social Security Disability shortly
after the accident, without legal aid, but was denied as a result of
the surgeon stating to Social Security that the condition was
temporary.

I have been living with my parents since the accident, on the property
they owned. Having had no gainful employment since the accident I have
been dependant on my parents for food, shelter and assistance. I have
difficulty lifting more than five pounds, standing or setting for long
periods of time.

My dad passed away several years ago and afterwards my mother was
receiving Social Security (mostly spousal survivor benefits), from
which she was paying all the bills, saving some in a checking account
and U.S. Savings Bonds. She recently passed away and I find myself
with no steady income, but am probably over the "resource" limit; now
owning my parents property and savings, by inheritance.

I am able to survive for a while, but the money will of course
eventually be depleted, unable to pay upfront money for legal fees,
but am willing to make payments pending a successful outcome in my
favor.

What can I do? Can someone help, give advice, or put me in contact
with a lawyer. Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Unless you can prove that you are *permanently* disabled for two years
you will not be able to receive SSDI. You could apply for SSI, but your
assets count against you.

They always turn down everyone who applies. You have to pound on them for
years in order to get a dime out of them. My son was disabled when he was
17, and he has yet to get a dime from them. I paqid into SS all of my life,
and when I needed some help, they turned their backs on me amd mine. I have
as little yuse for them as I hqve for anything attached to anything in the
US Government. They have effectively turned me from being a good citizen who
served in the military in my youth to a crook who will intentionally screw
them every chance I get, and who speaks out against them whenever I can. I
will go to my grave wishing I had spent my life as a criminal instead of a
good citizen. The crowning blow was when Obama took $4000 of my tax dollars
and gave it to that bum down the block with klunkers all over his front lawn
to buy himself a new car with. I will never forgive my government for that.
