Company Optional Physical
Recently I had a company paid physical (which is optional, not required) which was quite comprehensive. The physical was supervised by a D.O. not an MD. During the stress test part of the physical he became alarmed and directed to me to the Emergency room for further testing. He cited the stress test EKG reading as having something... more »

Consummation of marriage
Andy writes: Over on soc.retirement , one of the posters made the comment that a marriage is not legal until it is "consummated". Consummation in this context being sexual intercourse..... I got curious and looked it up in the Texas Statutes (on line) and did not find that to be a basis for dissolving a marriage. Yet the... more »

Real Estate - Lender payed flood insurance for years after closure
Hi, We sold our house 2 1/2 years ago. We had a lender that maintained an equity line of credit even after we had paid off the principle (prior to home sale). Unbeknown to us, the lender, not seeing that we were paying for flood insurance on that property, started paying for it themselves. Remember, we owed them nothing. They claim they tried to contact us, but... more »

full service or skimpy service
I went to a wedding over the weekend and two of the guys at my table had each been arrested some time in the past, one for some spat with his girlfriend and one for something arising out of a traffic stop. For one there was some truth to the charge and he got Probation Before Judgment, and for the other, it was nonsense but his lawyer (who... more »

Bonds Issued to a Subsidiary
Say that there is a class C corporation C with a class C subsidiary S. Say that C issues some unsecured debt and S issues its own unsecured debt. Later C declares chapter 11. S remains a healthy business. In such cases would the debt issued to the subsidiary S be any safer than the debt issued... more »

Bank disclosing personal info to third party
L Crumbly <dudlydori...@fastmail.fm> wrote in ...But of course if you'd spent ten seconds thinking about it instead of getting your panties into a knot, then you'd have figured out why they sent the change of address notification to the old address: it forestalls fraud. You *called* customer service. Presumably you... more »

The worse contractor ever - what should I do?
I had a suspected leak in my master bathroom from a home inspection with some mold in the crawlspace. I did not start using the master bedroom. I got some contractors to look at it. Some thought it was under the shower. Some thought it was next to it. Out of those, one seemed knowledgeable. He said that tiled shower pans... more »

Automated sources of legal information
Thomson-Reuter (West) is one of the major reference sources of legal information but it is mostly in the formats requiring human interaction. I am wondering if there is an Internet-based source that one could subscribe to be able to send automated (computer-to-computer) inquires about the current legal info.... more »
