Hi,
I wonder if anyone knows where I'd even start to get some kind of liability
insurance if I want to set myself up in malls and street fairs as a children's
face painter. I only by approved and safe, nontoxic, hypoallergenic, water
soluble makeup specifically made for use on children in schools and day care in
the US. Naturally, I would have the permission of the malls that I go to, and
I would like to be able to produce insurance, if they ask, plus it's just a
good idea where children are concerned. I live in Brooklyn, New York, but will
be traveling to all boroughs and possibly New Jersey.
Thank you very much.

I think you want generic business liability insurance. Same thing as would
protect you if someone were to trip and fall over your table. Look for ads
advertising "business" or "commercial" insurance in the phone book. If you're
friendly with other people similarly situated, ask them what company they
use. When you talk to the brokers, don't go into detail about the face
painting unless they ask. (If they ask, be honest.)

It shouldn't be a big deal. It *might* be expensive -- I've encountered
insurance companies that have minimums that are quite unreasonably high.

Hope this helps.
