I don't know if they're actually real, but they're certainly funny... [do
trial lawyers *really* occasionally do stuff like this?] /b\

These are from a book called Disorder in the American Courts, and are
things people actually said in court, word for word, taken down and now
published by court reporters that had the torment of staying calm while
these exchanges were actually taking place.

I heard an interview with a judge who used to write a column of funny
court moments and he told several of those same stories. I think his
old columns are published on a webpage somewhere but I can't find the
interview or the webpage now. I remember searching the archive of his
columns for a funny moment that I remember from the OJ trial, but it
wasn't there. Robert Shapiro and some other guy kept speaking at the
same time. When the judge told them to stop, the both said "I
apologize your honor" at the same time. Robert Shapiro laughed.

Yes, I'm sure some of those exchanges actually did take place (but some
might have been "embelished" a bit.) I was in "worthless check court"
recently (with a friend...HONESTLY!*laugh*) and some woman was there
with her daughter(in-law?) She was going to pay off the check and had
turned to the daughter and said "No I want this paid back, you hear?"
The judge looked at the mother and said "I wouldn't advise taking a
check." The whole court busted up. (Also goes to show sometimes judges
really do have a sense of humor.)

I've seen many of those before _without_ the zingers.
