Hi Sue!

SK> Now I am thinking about using either Sears or Penneys. I was
SK> wondering which was better in terms of good photographers, choice of
SK> backgrounds, and I was wondering if you can bring your own props.
SK>
SK> I understand that both have the instant proofs, thats probably a nice
SK> thing. And I also keep getting coupons for both places.

I think that JC Penneys has more to offer - and looks better than Sears.
I have brought in my own props, different outfits, and asked for
specific poses - all with no problems from JC Penney. I feel they do
better work, overall.

We join the portrait club - which is nice if you plan on getting
pictures taken several times in 2 years - it pays for the sitting fee,
and you get coupons in the mail. The coupons that I will be using soon
are for unlimited sheets for $4 - an unbeatable value! :) If you get
enough pictures taken, you also get free 8"x 10" , but I don't go for
the big pictures.

Good luck in finding someone you like! :)

We had our portraits done at Penney's last fall, and we were very
disappointed. The service was very bad, and we will never buy portraits
there again. The portraits were ok. We made an appointment, and they
were running 30 minutes late. We were planning to get greeting cards
made, but when we got there we found out that the cards took 3 weeks
instead of 2. The studio was very hot and uncomfortable. When the
pictures were taken, the photographer spent all of her time trying to get
the baby to smile, and didn't work with my husband and me. So, in one
picture, we were looking in different directions. When she finished
taking the pictures, nobody helped us look at our proofs or take our
order.

When I picked up the pictures, I told the person working there how we
felt, and he basically said that he normally worked at a different store,
and he had been having problems with the one we went to. I told him that
we wouldn't be returning and why. I will never get portraits at Penney's
again. (It's their loss, because my first baby is 6 months old. We'll be
getting a lot more pictures made.)

I think that I am going to try Sears next time which will be as soon as
Michelle can sit up a little better.

as far as photo companies go - we've tried them all from the real
expensive (Olan Mills) to the really cheap (Kmarts). We've done
Penney's, Sears, & Marshall Fields. But the best one we've had is a
place called Expressly Protraits. They take the pictures and then in
one hours they are ready. If you need reprints (or like for us a
multiple number of christmas prints to put in cards) that was ready one
hour after we chose the picture we wanted. The one time we didn't want
any they retook the picture right away. No long waiting times and you
know the result in an hour. It was great.

I tried Sears in the beginning and will never go back again!! 30
minutes does not seem long after you've been to Sears!! I found the
lights much brighter and the flash made a popping sound that terrified
my son and made all of his pictures look like he was upset. Try
another Penney's. We've always had wonderful luck there. If your
goal is to have a really nice family portrait done, find a local
photographer. Expensive, but some will even come to your home!

We use Expressly Portraits too. I have a lot of family so I
try to use them for the family portraits and then Sears for the
individual shots of just my daughter. With Sears we can
usually get about 100 pictures for $10 plus sitting fee. While
I like Expressly Portraits better (poses are much more casual
and fun) I can't afford to get as many copies as I need. A
balance between the two does it for us.
