Author writing a book on youth sports and fitness in America seeks anecdotes,
stories, opinions etc... on the subject . Specifically :
** Do competitive sports programs do more harm or good for kids ?
** What age should children first be exposed to competitive sports (keeping
score, winning, losing) ?
** Model programs where kids are taught to keep winning and losing in proper
perspective ......
** Outstanding/Successful youth sports coaches or programs that you think
should be included in a book like this .
** Anything else you'd care to spout off about ....
THANKS !

As far as I'm concerned, sports are fine UNTIL they start keeping score. In
the original olympics (not the current/commercialized version), all
participants were awarded simply for competing and doing their best. That's
the kind of values I'd like to see sports engender. The oposite end of the
spectrum is exemplified by the NCAA, Texas High School Football, and Indiana
High School Basketball. If I wanted to point out an individual who should be
bared from setting foot anywhere near a school, it would be Bobby Knight.

I recently enrolled my kids into sports and fitness program in Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Texas (http://www.bgctx.org). I think, they will learn the basic of sports before entering into competitive sports activities.
