Sears Portrait Studio Question

Sears today to get his 6 month old pictures taken as well as his
Christmas ones. I did the package with each sheet being $3.99.
However, now that I'm home (and really got to thinking), I'm not sure if
I ordered enough. I was told that if you leave and then want to order
more, that it goes to the regular price of $12 per sheet. :-(. Do any
of you know if you can go to one of those Kodak booths they have in
drugstores now and copy and resize them? I need a way to get a couple
more sheets. I have a scanner but my printer isn't good. Any ideas?

Technically you don't own the rights to those photos, so the people
operating the Kodak machines are not supposed to let you copy them. We
found a nice WalMart employee who let us do it once, but generally
when you ask for the key to the machine, they check to see that you're
doing your own photographs. You might try scanning and printing at an
office store, though they could have the same rule about copyrighted
stuff. There are some online photo places (Babycenter has one) that'll
make prints from scans, too. Good luck!

There is no way to do it legally. The photos are
copyrighted, and most reputable places who are in the copying
business will not allow you to make copies of copyrighted
photos unless you have a waiver signed by the copyright holder.
Even if there is not a copyright notice on the back, most
places will get very suspicious if you show up with something
that *looks* like a professional photo--even if you took it
yourself!

Oops--sorry to follow up on my own post, but even if you
could find a place that would let you make copies of a copyrighted
photo, you still wouldn't even be saving yourself much. Most
of those machines cost around $10/page--not a lot of money saved
when you consider the risk, the ethical issues, and the time spent
running around trying to find a place that will let you do it.

done a long time ago (March 2000). I took Patrick's photo to K-mart and
used their machine to make copies. No one ever said anything to me.

Wal-Mart, JCPenney or Sears and go in and get new pictures taken for
whatever 'package' they happen to be offering. If you do it in the next
week or so, you'll be able to have them for Christmas, and they'll end up
way cheaper (but they will be different, not a big deal IMO). For example,
the coupon from JC Penney that I will be using on Wed offers either $5.49
per sheet (which I will do because I need LOTS) or a package for $12.99 of 1
10X13, 1 8X10, 2 5X7, 4 3.5X5m, 15 wallets and 6 billfolds (oh yes, 9.99
sitting fee also, but I'm a portrait club member, so I don't have to pay
that. I'm sure that Sears has a similar type package, and I saw a coupon
in yesterday's paper for something similar at Target, with no sitting fee.

I think your best bet is to spend the $12 per sheet; you're going to get the
best quality that way. Scanning them loses a generation of quality, and I
would imagine the Kodak booth would do the same thing.
Why not call Sears and *beg* them to let you order extras at the $3.99
price? Tell them that you really regret your decision. They might let you
do it since you had them done just today, you know? Maybe ask to speak to a
manager? You could also ask them to honor the $3.99 price since today is
the same day that the photos were taken.

I beg of you to NOT infringe on copyright. Sure, you might think Sears is a
big company and they can handle not getting your dollars, but infringing on
them is no different than making a copy of a Renoir.
