Hi All,

Oliver, at 9 months, is finally cutting his first two teeth. I can see them
peeking out of his swollen gums BUT it's coming out from the top gums!!! I
thought that the first teeth to cut would be the two bottom ones. He's a
late teether to begin with but isn't it odd that it is the top ones that are
coming out first?

Does every baby start with the two bottom ones? Should I see the ped?

Thanks,

Mia

No you should not see the pediatrician. :-) So Oliver is going backwards,
just means he's special and has his own way of doing things.

I know a little girl who is 18 months old. Poor thing has only two teeth so
far. Eric is 14 months old and has 12. Each to their own pace.

All three of my girls had the bottom teeth to come in first. I don't think
it's neccessary to see anyone about it. All babies are different.

Oops sorry, I read that wrong. It is still normal and doesn't warrant a
visit to a doctor.

Teeth don't come in in any set order. My three kids all had different
patterns.

My oldest didn't get teeth till she was 10 months old -- and for a while
she had
the two bottoms center and then one top center and the one next to it --
the other
center tooth didn't come in for months -- and it looked really funny!

Stephen started with his two top ones, too. Now he has four on top, still
just two on the bottom, and seems to be cutting his canines, though I
thought they were to come in after the first molars! He didn't get his
first teeth til around 11 months. I have mentioned it to our ped, who
didn't seem concerned at all. (Stephen is 15 months now.)

some get the tops first others get the bottoms first. My ds had wierd tooth
eruptions too. He got the 2 bottoms then the right top then the one beside
the incisor then teh other incisor then the second top tooth.....nothing
wrong with it. Don't worry, he might have a harder time teething tho, I
&heard* that cutting the bottom 2 first makes it easier to cut the top 2
since the 2 bottoms help in cutting the gums?!?! don't know how true that is

Hunter got his first two at 4 months - on the top - and didn't have a
particularly hard time with it. One more data point for ya :-)

I would not worry at all. My dd got her first at 10 months and has never
followed any pattern at all. She had 1 bottom and 1 top for quite some time. I
would not worried as long as they all come up at some point : )

My daughter's first teeth where the upper canine teeth... funny that it
happened right around Halloween so she looked a tad bit like a vampire..
hehehe

I wouldn't worry..

Yosef just got his first teeth at 8 months, also the top two front teeth. He
looks like a little beaver. :) I was also expecting the bottom ones first, so I
didn't even notice that he was *getting* teeth until they were pretty much out
-- I was so focused on that lower gum I never looked at the top one! Now he
seems to be getting his bottom two teeth as well. He seems to be having a
relatively easy time with the teething process. Now if only he would stop
dragging his teeth along my nipples while he nurses...
