Employment Experience
Aug. 1987 - Present:
University of California, Berkeley, CA 94720
Advisor: Prof. Supriya Chakrabarti (Boston University)
Completed doctoral research at the Department of Physics (Berkeley Space
Sciences Laboratory). Offsite at Boston University's Center for Space
Physics since June 1993. Responsible for the design, fabrication, testing,
calibration, and integration of the Coronal Ultraviolet Berkeley
Spectrometer (CUBS) instrument, launched aboard NASA's Black Brant XII
sounding rocket. Developed a spherical radiative transfer model to
simulate exospheric resonance emissions in planetary atmospheres.
Participated in the design and testing of original optical instruments
for use in aeronomic measurements. Programmed numerous raytrace codes
(FORTRAN, IDL) for testing optical designs of sounding rocket, satellite,
and laboratory instruments. Fabricated microchannel plate position
sensitive detectors for use in sounding rocket experiments and laboratory
testing. Participated in the design, construction, and operation of a
vacuum ultraviolet calibration facility. Authored papers for journal
submission and presented results at conferences. Awarded funding for the
proposal, ``The Study of Resonance Emissions in the Exosphere,'' by NASA's
Graduate Student Researchers Program. Past duties have included a full
time graduate course load, Graduate Student Instructor (GSI) and Head GSI
position for Department of Physics.
Summers 1983 - 1988:
Pacific Sierra Research Corp., Santa Monica, California 90025
Supervisor: Dr. Leonard Schlessinger
Computer programmer (FORTRAN, Basic). Data analyst. Conducted research
concerning measurements of Source Region Electromagnetic Pulse phenomena
(SREMP). Measured forbidden lines produced by Stark mixing in NaK with
YAG laser.
