OBJECTIVE: A long-term position in software or systems engineering.
SUMMARY:
Fifteen years of experience with computer programming, software engineering,
and systems analysis and engineering. IBM PC, PS/2, RT, RS/6000; DEC VAX;
HP-9000; Motorola 68xxx. UNIX (AIX, HP-UX, SCO UNIX, Ultrix), MS-DOS.
C, Pascal, FORTRAN, Basic, assembler, SQL. TCP/IP, Internet, SNMP,
UNIX sockets, X Windows/Motif. Communications software; networking
applications; user interfaces; instrument control software; testing and
benchmarking; kernel debugging.
EXPERIENCE:
Software Design and Development - Austin, TX, 1989 and 1991 - 1992.
Contract Software Engineer position with IBM's Advanced Workstation Division.
Work consisted of developing test plans and procedures, and evaluating the
performance of UNIX internals, shell script languages and features, and
systems library benchmarks, for AIX. Also included frequent requirements for
kernel debugging. A second contract with the RS/6000 Performance Group
involved developing and running a test suite to validate a set of software
tools being developed by an outside company at IBM's request. Work involved
performance evaluation of multi-user work loads in both serial/terminal, and
X Window networked environments under AIX. Systems included the RS/6000, RT,
and PS/2s.
AVL Photronics - Atlanta, GA, 1991.
Senior Software Engineer. Contract position to develop instrument control
software for an automated medical diagnostic system that had fallen behind
schedule. Project involved serial communications between dedicated processors
and PC supervisor, a windowed end user interface, and a small database.
Also created software and specified hardware to allow remote, dial-up
background polling of laboratory test sites. Code produced in C for MS-DOS.
New Mexico Technet - Albuquerque, NM, 1990.
Senior Systems Programmer. Technet is a regional network services provider.
Designed and developed network and serial communications software, database
utilities, and general end user utilities. Work involved both PC and
minicomputer interactions, as well as wide and local-area networks, TCP/IP
and Internet applications. Primary hardware used was DEC. Programmed in C
for MS-DOS, UNIX, and VMS.
Mini-Systems Associates - Vienna, VA, 1988 - 1989.
Software Engineer. Contract position at Boeing Computer Services on a 200 man
project to produce a customer information system for AT&T. Worked as a team
leader with group developing and writing message handling software in C under
Microsoft Windows. Other tasks involved writing database entry and retrieval
routines in SQL. Mixed hardware environment including 386-PCs, IBM
mainframes, and Teradata database servers.
T.L.I. Information Systems - Albuquerque, NM, 1987 - 1988.
System Development Specialist. Supervised the selection, configuration and
installation of micro and minicomputer hardware for mixed UNIX/DOS systems at
customer sites. Designed and wrote software in C and 8088 assembler for
network and serial communications between UNIX and DOS environments. Created
a consistent multi-window user interface for users regardless of the platform
they were using. Wide variety of hosts used, especially the HP-9000 300 and
800 series systems.
Applied Methods - Albuquerque, NM, 1987.
Programmer. Six months contract at the Sandia National Laboratory. Project
to develop a security management system for US Embassies. Created a context
sensitive, windowed user interface for non-technical users running on 286-
PCs. Developed utilities and specifications for WORM data logging and audit
trail system. Languages used were C and 8086 assembler under MS-DOS.
Self Employed - Albuquerque, NM, 1986 - 1987.
Computer Consultant. Specialized in systems analysis and custom software for
MS-DOS and UNIX. Tasks included hardware interface programs; installation
and management; system design; network design; applications programs;
documentation.
Mesa Diagnostics - Los Alamos and Albuquerque, NM, 1984 - 1986.
Senior Programmer/Analyst. Joint project with the Los Alamos National Labs to
build an automated laser based medical diagnostic system. Coordinated the
design, development, testing, and documentation of software and PC hardware
for computer control of all systems. Supervised a programming staff of three.
Applications included data acquisition, process control, communications,
data analysis, and departmental systems support. Languages used were C,
Pascal, and FORTRAN.
C.C.N. Services - Corrales, NM, 1981 - 1984.
Consultant involved with development and adaptation of applications software,
user support and training, and the selection and implementation of small
computer systems.
University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, 1979 - 1980.
Computer Science Department. Teaching Assistant. While studying as an
undergraduate, taught computer labs in Pascal and Basic. Graded class
assignments in Pascal, Basic, and Assembler.
Computer Shack, Albuquerque, NM, 1977 - 1979.
Salesman/Programmer. Assisted customers in selecting, developing and custom
tailoring applications software, and instructed them in its use. User
software was written in Basic, at a time when commercial microcomputer
packages were virtually non-existent for 8080 and Z-80 CP/M systems.
EDUCATION:
University of New Mexico - Albuquerque, NM, 1976 - 1981.
Bachelor of Science program in Computing and Information Science.
OTHER EXPERIENCE:
Federal Aviation Administration - Albuquerque, NM, 1974 - 1977.
Air Traffic Control Specialist. Directed the flow of air traffic in an
automated environment.
