Job History
Los Altos Software - Los Altos, California (1980 through Present)
President & Co-Owner
Responsible for overall management of the enterprise, including development, marketing, and sales. Successfully negotiated the acquisition by Comshare, Incorporated of Profiles/3000 (an HRM system). Full responsibility for several other proprietary software products including:
Q-Plus - A fourth-generation language, compiler, run-time processor, screen-handler, DBMS interface, de-compiler, and dictionary processor. Q-Plus was licensed by hundreds of firms.
DBfree - A Natural Language processor for providing non-technical users full and direct inquiry and update access to Image (Hewlett-Packard proprietary DBMS) databases. This included a capability for storing N/L procedures for later use and a menu processor to allow cataloging and retrieval. DBfree was licensed as a stand-alone product and was also seamlessly integrated into Q-Plus for support of database-specific, online applications.
ASAP - A full-featured, menu-driven report writer. Because it also generates highly structured, COBOL source code, technical personnel are able to use it for the creation of programs and then customization to accommodate special requirements. The simple, menu-driven interface allows end users to easily develop and catalog reports for repeated use. Like Q-Plus, ASAP was licensed by Comshare for resale to its Profiles/3000 customer base.
People/3000 - An HRM (Human Resource Management) system for the HP-3000 computer. Los Altos Software (then Asyst, Incorporated) sold sole rights to Comshare who then marketed it under the trade name Profiles/3000.
Fastrack 3000 - An HP-3000-based Sales Contact and Quotation-Management system
Quotrack for Windows - A Windows, GUI version of Fastrack 3000.
Optimum Systems, Inc. - Santa Clara, California (1970 through 1980)
Director of Turnkey Systems (1979 through mid-1980) - Led a team of technical personnel on an eight-month project which resulted in the functional adaptation of OSI's municipal information system (GEMUNIS) from the IBM 370 to the HP-3000. Despite the fact that OSI was faltering at this point and resources were scarce, the project was concluded successfully and on-schedule. The completed system was licensed to LOGIS, a joint-powers group of 21 cities in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area.
Director of Product Development (1977 through 1979) - Responsible for a department of over 40 programmers, analysts, and support persons. During this period of approximately two years, the areas of responsibility (Municipal, Manufacturing, and Financial Systems) grew in terms of both gross revenue and profitability.
Director of Municipal Systems (1971 through 1977) - Leading a department of technical and sales personnel, brought OSI's municipal systems from an unprofitable, single-city activity to a profitable enterprise, ultimately providing online support to eight San Francisco Bay Area municipalities and twenty-one Minnesota cities.
Member of the Technical Staff (1970 through 1971) - Designed known-offenders investigation support, arrest and booking, and incident reporting systems for the City and County of San Francisco. Also worked in sales support, conducting presentations for police agencies throughout the U.S.
