"Fear and ignorance seem to be gripping retail investors these days,"
said Charles Biderman, chief executive of Santa Rosa, Calif.-based
TrimTabs on Thursday, pointing to ongoing concerns about subprime
lending and slumping housing markets. "There's no credit risk; no bank
is going to lose money on this subprime fear," he added. "Income-tax
collections are strong, and you don't have a housing collapse when
wage income and job growth are surging." Biderman said that Tuesday's
outflows seem to have trickled into Wednesday, although final
estimates won't' be available until later in the week. "This is a
complete panic by individual investors," he commented. "They just
don't know what's going on."

NEW YORK, Aug 3 (Reuters) - The float of shares in the U.S. stock
market dropped by a record $121 billion in July, said TrimTabs
Investment Research, a Santa Rosa, California-based firm that tracks
market trends for institutions.

Announced corporate buying reached $26.6 billion this past week, with
seven new cash takeovers totaling $5.4 billion and 51 new stock
buybacks amounting to $21.3 billion, TrimTabs added. For 15 of the
past 16 weeks, corporate buying has topped $20 billion.

"The lemmings who are panicking and selling are doing exactly the
opposite of what corporate America is doing," wrote Charles Biderman,
chief executive of TrimTabs. "Over the longer term, the stock market's
direction will be set by the fundamentals of liquidity, not the panic
that gripped the market during the past two weeks."

You could if they can't make the mortgage payments after the teaser rates
end.
