When people say that the price of a stock is $200, that means that the last
time someone bought it and someone else sold it, that transaction took place
at $200.
It is possible that if you offer to sell yours for $200, you won't be able
to do so because the previous buyer was the last one willing to pay that

companies with tens of thousands of shares, if there are sellers, there

I admit it. I had invested some money in SLASX and DODGX back in 2003.
They're now roughly back to where they were in 2003, or even lower.
OTOH, I had also invested in gold funds back then, when gold prices were
around $320 an ounce.

What was remarkable is that the two curves actually correlate day to day
and week to week, not just a long-term trend of the last 8 years. I
mean, when the S&P 500 had a short-term rally, so did McCain's poll numbers.
