Previous postings “Moonbeam Markets”, “Meandering Markets”, “Mirky
Markets”, “Marvelous Markets” may be of interest.

Since I watched cable until 5 AM CST, I will keep things short today.

M A R K E T S

The Asian stock markets posted significant gains, and the European
markets seem to be doing well. I recall an advertisement showing a bunch
of investors in suits milling about on a grassy hill, being spooked in
various directions like a herd of skittish herbivores. That advertisement
would be an appropriate metaphor for the markets lately. It seems likely
that there will be another war UN vs. Iraq round two. You can guess who
wins. Do you recall what happened to markets when Iraq invaded Kuwait ?
Do you recall all the turmoil due to “the uncertainty about oil prices”
caused by mostly inflexible demand and supposedly irrecoverable
diminished supply ? Do you recall what *really* happened after a very
brief bobbling ? Do you recall what your investments were trading then
and what they are trading now ? Can you recall the oil price
supply/demand curves then versus now ? This time around are you going to
be an herbivore, or are you going to teach the carnivorous sharks a
lesson they will *never* forget ? See my first posting Marvelous Markets
paragraph 6) “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some
people all the time...” Were you a fool last week ? Are you comfortable
with that ?

P O L I T I C S

I despise flag burners because they clearly do not understand the
distinction between a nation and a government. A flag is the symbol of a
nation, but so far as I understand the symbolism, it does not really
symbolize a government. Maybe I am out of touch with the times and wrong
about that. I do not care whether it is Iraq burning USA or USA burning
China, it is very very very stupid. How can anybody hate an entire nation
? What they should be hating if hate is in their hearts is the government
entrusted to run the affairs of that nation. If any emotion is relevant,
they should have sympathy for the betrayed people of that nation being
ground under the iron boot of despotic government. I was brought up in a
fanatically religious home and escaped by going into the military at age
17. I have never trusted an organized religion since. If you read the
holy book of your faith, chances are that you will discover that there is
a division of labor allocated between God and the Devil. It is God’s job
to spread love. It is the Devil’s job to spread hatred. Next time your
religious instructor speaks as intermediary between you and some Almighty
power, you should check for yourself who is instructing him (or her). The
symbol which is nearest and dearest to a despotic government is left as
an exercise for the student. You may want to use a color copier machine
to keep your costs down.

With apologies to Walt Disney, I quote (at least I think I do since it
has been many years since I heard either) : 1) Did you ever wish on a
star, carry moonbeams home in a jar.... 2) When you wish upon a star, it
makes no difference who you are, when you wish upon a star, your dreams
come true.

When I was a child in the fifties and sixties I heard those tunes fairly
often. You can interpret them several ways. I give a couple of examples.

a) Spit in one hand, wish in the other and see which one gets full first.
The common view familiar today. b) If you do not wish, then you have no
goals. If you have no goals, then you have no motivation. If you have no
motivation, then you will do little or nothing. If you do nothing, then
your condition will never improve. So unless you were born wealthy, you
had better start wishing, because the alternative is about as attractive
as used toilet paper.

Speaking of used toilet paper, let me point out that the cultural values
of a person are generally determined in the childhood years. What a child
observes is the basis for value judgments lasting a lifetime. Contrast
the admittedly corny entertainment of my generation to the role models on
the screen today. Is there *anybody* stupid enough to *want* to raise a
generation of ignoramus barbarians trained to have insatiable perverted
appetites coupled to murderous emotional instability ? The few who escape
the trap are *guaranteed* to consider everything they see false until
proven true and guilty until proven innocent. If your goals seem
impossible, you might try working on your ability to think, remember, and
learn things. Civilized reasoning rather than emotional frustration is
the way to solve problems. If you cannot think, then you are just a two
legged animal, deserving whatever justice a vigilant society dispenses.
Notice that law and justice are two entirely different things, as we in
America know only too well. Notice that I said society, not government.
Is that perfectly clear ?

Yes I watched the Reform Party convention. In “Meandering Markets” I
asked - Can the Reform Party muster enough energy and intellect to
attract attention ? Somebody decoded that word Moonbeam right smartly - I
award an attaboy. Yesterday they were a bunch of rubes. I will not go so
far as to say that today they looked halfway competent, but the learning
curve indicates to me that with a little work they can take as many
political offices in 1998 as there are ballot positions. Do a dependency
and derivatives analysis folks. A dependency is a condition which must be
satisfied for another to occur. When I worked for a bureaucracy we used
schedules called slip charts by the grunts because missing a deadline
meant the completion date for other things slipped. A derivative is of
course a factor which determines the rate at which the value of another
factor changes. Do not stop at first or second, I can identify at least
five to seven derivatives of wealth before you start getting into
cultural dependencies. Your objective in party building should be
exponential rather than linear or quadratic growth rates. Instructing you
in mathematics and economics is not my problem....

Nine months ago this administration told us certain things. A woman can
make a child in nine months. A mountainous government can only make a
feeble mouse. See http://www.nynews.com/speech.htm So how about a reality
check ? Take a look at these links.

Some of you have already seen this. As a reminder, there are plenty more
roaches where I came from. 1) Any problem can be solved given sufficient
time and resources. 2) A problem is anything which would be unacceptable
to an observer if the observer were fully aware of its implications. 3)
Unacceptable is a subjective decision by the observer(s) based upon
priorities. 4) Priorities are derived from beliefs, opinions,
capabilities, expectations, factual data, analytical constraints, etc. -
lump them together as a systemic state. 5) The priorities of mankind are
made manifest by allocation of time and resources to problem solving
tasks. 6) Allocation is made more effective by using technology
(computers in particular) to leverage the biologically limited human
intellect. 7) Applying this leverage has significantly improved the
systemic state of mankind over the past twenty years, while producing a
valuable side effect. 8) The side effect is that more people are becoming
familiar with analytical reasoning (made necessary by usage of computers)
weakening the influence of emotion based belief systems, and changing
priority allocation. 9) Which can make it *possible* to discard belief
systems in conflict with reality.

P E R S O N A L

By now some of you know my personal history. So it should come as no
surprise that when someone insulted and cheated me a while back, I gained
a strong motivation. One of my rules of thumb is the classic “never to
forgive, never to forget”. Another principle was taught me by the Air
Force - “need to know”. I have gained quite a few philosophical notions
from reading a couple thousand science fiction books. Over the years I
have stuck to my purpose while doing quite a bit of thinking, and
incidentally playing over 20000 hours of computer strategy games. I shall
pay back the harm done to me by a factor of about a million to one as a
sort of class action suit in the court of last resort - public opinion. I
now declare my war on and speak to the power elite manipulating a
helpless population. When the system which allows you to exist and harm
people in the way you harmed me has been utterly destroyed, I will be
satisfied and return to my private affairs. I saw that market crash and
knew that this time you had your hand too far into the cookie jar. When I
posted that first memo I became committed to this course of action. There
is no turning back for me simply because I *will* be exterminated for the
harm I have done your system unless I am victorious. The difference
between me and Mr. Perot at the time of insult is that he had a few
billion wealth, while I had none. I can *honestly earn* my billions after
I have put paid to your corrupt system. For those who want a look at my
10 year track record, find somebody with a copy of 1986 “Freedom
Computing Publications Hotdisk” #1 and #2. I *might* have kept my mouth
shut until I finished my current game if I had not had the problem
previously noted. Set *your* people to play Master of Orion II at
impossible level for a score of 6000 plus. I am fully in touch with
reality, attempting to give you a notion of my expertise. Life is the
greatest strategy game of all. I do not hate my opponents. I do not get
mad. I intend to get even. You offend me simply because you are not
efficient or effective in giving mankind the benefits of progress. No
negotiated settlement is possible. You are free to clean up your act at
any time.

I appreciate the restraint shown by those who know who and where I am. I
really have no need to meet or communicate with any of you. I do *not*
want to be a media celebrity since I could care less what the public
thinks of me. If my privacy is invaded I will be thoroughly annoyed. It
would not be pretty. Do NOT make my day. By the way, I had no spam until
today. Yesterday I sent an email to a new correspondent. Today I have
already had two spams. I do not like spam. If you are contemplating using
a spam list based on recent email traffic, then you had better carefully
examine that list to be sure that my email is NOT on it. While it is true
that I cannot retaliate, you are a FOOL if you think your little game
will go unnoticed. Due to the nature of my postings, it is almost certain
that in this “land of the free and home of the brave” my email is
monitored. You will draw the attention of people who take a dim view of
spam. It is possible that they hate it even more than I do. And unlike
me, they can make you do HARD TIME. A word to the wise is sufficient. For
the remainder, “think of it as evolution in action”.

Well it’s 9:30 AM CST and I reckon that I have done another good day’s
work. All opinions are mine. See previous disclaimers/warnings.

No Guarantee, No Warranty, No Liability, Don’t Hassle Me

Sincerely, Lonnie C. Clay- TC5...@aol.com
