There was also discussion about the end of the world. It has not quite been 365 days, but I added up some numbers today for the trailing earnings (about four hours, including reading... more »

Government Health Proposals
I'll weigh in (a little lengthy) Re Public Option/ Insurance pools/Assigned Risk plans My alternative would be to allow individuals or employers join the largest pool of insured Americans - the people who work for the Federal government. Federal employees have the choice of a number of plans each... more »

Denied credit card???
Try a different bank. Try getting your credit card as part of a package from the bank where you have a checking and/or savings account. Getting a credit card is not a rational process at the moment. We have decided that since things are very quiet here, we would relax the posting guidelines somewhat so that the issue can be discussed.... more »

Medicare question

Current beneficiaries whose income is under those thresholds will not see a premium increase for 2010. Rather, the increase that would have... more »

how to analyze property performance
When buying an investment property, you have a couple numbers you can look at to see how the property is performing. Cap rate - NOI/purchase price cash on cash - cash generated/cash invested at the point of purchase, these numbers are easy to come by. How do you perform such an analysis over time?... more »

three LTC strategies
If you have few retirement assets, then spending downing until qualifying medicare is a common strategy. If you have a large retirement asset base, that may pay for the three or so years of care you need. Your heirs may disagree. This is called self-insurance. Finally there is the difficult middle- those who neither want to... more »

Putting away cash for my kid
Just had a child and people have given us gift of cash for us to spend on her. Well, seeing as we have all we need for her I thought I should sock what are essentially her pennies and dollars away for when she is older. We are talking about $1000 here and I'd like to be able to put it away somewhere that will earn ok for about 18-20 years. I... more »
