One questions I wonder about: What if a person has applied for immigration (couple (husband & wife) and then a baby comes along, after the file number has been allocated etc.
Specific questions:
Is the application still valid? I.e. will it continue? If so, what about the baby?
Once baby is born s/he must be added to the application.

It won't affect the decision, unless baby is found inadmissible on medical grounds.

Visas will have to be returned and baby added to the case - change in marital status from single to married or in family composition prior to landing invalidates visa if already issued. Any attempt to land without adding baby to the case may have severe consequences, including possible loss of PR status and/or making impossible for baby to be sponsored ever. So, don't even think about landing without adding baby to the case and getting new visas.
