My husband and I are investigating retiring in Victoria in about 5-10 years,
but might want to buy a condo sooner to benefit from appreciation. Are there
any hassles involved? Since we A. Don't want a job; B. Don't want to relinquish
citizenship from the U.S.; C. Will have retirement income; I would think it
should be straight foreward. Or am I being naive?
Do you pay income taxes to Canada if living there as a permanent resident, too?
Any info would be helpful!

I'm sorry but you are at least not informed. You cannot just move
permanently to Canada - (1) you may have here second residence and live part
of the year as seasonal residents while maintaining primary residence in US
or (2) you may try to qualify for permanent resident status. The latter may
be impossible to get, unless you qualify in one of economic classes. Any of
the above have no impact on your US citizenship. In the (1) scenario you
will simply be visitors with absolutely no other status in Canada, no health
insurance, no nothing.

Years ago Canadian immigration program had a Retirees category - but not
anymore and it is highly unlikely for retirees to qualify on their own to
immigration to Canada.
