My uncle is sponsoring us but can't remember when he became an Australi-
an Citizen (it was a good many years ago - he emigrated in 1977). How
accurate does the answer to this question have to be. If he puts in say
1985 and it was really 1987 would that have a devastating affect at soem
point in the future?

Thanks

Surely if you speak to him he will have some sort of letter with the da-
te on it?
I know our friends have, although they only became citizens last year.

Errr, thanks for responding and I know you're trying to come to terms
with losing Rooney 'an all - but I posted this AFTER speaking to him.
He can't remember the exact date.

He's in the system somewhere. Perhaps contact the immigration dept to
find out where there is a database/register.

I don't know about the uncle sponsoring you sit. But I am sponsoring my
husband and I have to provide my citizenship certificate as proof of ci-
tizenship. And that has the date on it.

They also accept his passport - but the passport doesn't include the da-
te.

Sorry about stating the obvious but you would be surprised the amount of
people just put a relative down and they haven't spoken to them for a
number of years and just expect them to sponsor the applicant.

and as for Rooney, who? :) :)

Yeah I know thanks - I shouldn't respond to advice when I'm havng a bad
office day!

Apparently he can get a copy certificate but that takes another 3 weeks
- but firstly he has to provide birth certificates of all 4 of his gran-
dparents!! It's a bluddy nightmare - they'll have his passport number
etc etc so I was kinda hoping that just the year would do. They must
check, surely?

He can't get a copy certificate - he needs to use form 119 to apply
for a Certificate of Evidence of Australian citizenship, and pay AU-
D55 or so.

Why he think he needs to provide grandparents birth certs for this is a
mystery - if you look at form 119 then the requirements for naturalised
Australians are fairly limited and do not include this.

In the meantime his passport will do for proof that he is an Australian
citizen. Concerning when he became a citizen, if he writes something
like 'approx 1985' it will be quite ok.
