We had a product that did this however the cost was $500 USD. It has since
been discontinued, but maybe we can dredge one up if you really want it.
The package consists of an ISA card and software for both DOS and Windows.
The card has an integrated tuner so you can change channels via the software.
It has connectors for cable input, video output, and audio output. The
software will store the teletext pages onto your hardisk as well as providing
a realtime display of the information.
The tuner/card is capable of both NTSC and PAL, but I think the software is
is set up to handle NTSC only.

: Is there anybody who knows any equipment to download the
: teletext information from TV channels into a computer for
: a cost less than 200 pounds/250 $ dollars ?
There used to be one called MicroText (I think), it was available for several
machines, ACORN BBC, Atari, Amiga, cost about 130.

Check Aminet in hard/misc for a file called tt120.lha. It's a very
good and cheap Hardware scheme for a Teletext decoder for your
Amiga. It also includes excellent software.
If you can't find it in Aminet, FTP to ftp.ci.ua.pt directory /pub/amiga/hard/misc.

In browsing through the journals at our library, I noticed that a recent
issue of Electronics & Wireless World (August '94, I think) had an article
on exactly this project.

When we were working with our teletext product we found teletext on
TBS, the Home Shopping Channel, and WWOR from Chicago used it for
close captioning. I belive that TBS may have dropped it's teletext
channel.

Sure. In the SF Bay area. Channel 36 uses it for the 5-15min delayed
stock broadcasts.
