The next thing you will probably tell us is that you were natural. I know you
were posting for advice for your weight increase but I have rip you for your
post. I you mistakenly put 50 inch then I apologize, but if you stand by it
I say your measuring tape is missing about 10-15 inches.
I don't think it's as *much* bullshit as you think. Sure, I'm skeptical as
well; esp. since the guy is only 170 lbs. But you don't have to be a monster
to have a 50 inch chest. I'm a 48 right now, and I'm far from being a monster
or a freak. And my partner is about a 52 chest. Granted, our waists are wider
than 28. But contrary to what Rob Spector says, I'm not exactly a "fatster".
I'm about 15-16% bodyfat (which *is* fat for a bodybuilder, but I don't think
I look that bad in a "normal" sense). My pants are all 32's, although my gut
is certainly larger than that in the fattest part. My partner's waist is
comparable to mine.
BTW, I'm 5'5'' and only 200 lbs. And, no, I'm not jacked.
p.s. You should've seen the butcher job the tux guys did on me for a wedding
I was in this past weekend.

The opinions expressed are mine...all mine!
Well, thats not quite true. My former powerlifting training
partner did have a 50'' chest (pumped an expanded) and a 28.5
inch waist. He is some freak, but that alone did not get him
into all the muscle mags.
> Especially
> if you only weighed 170.
True---he weighed about 205 with those measurements.
However, even with those measurements (throw in a 19 '' arm)
he didn't look much like a pro bodybuilder. They look substantially
more cartoon-like, and tend do have certain muscles developed
that give them a characteristic bodbuilder shape, distinct from
the more rugged athletic build of a (not fat) powerlifter.

Ummm...didn't the original poster say that the person in question was
AT 170lbs, not OVER?
> I placed second to Ray Mcneil in the lightheavies of the NPC
>Western USA Championships and I had a 48" chest and a 28" waist on the
>day of the show. I weighed 193 and was about 5% bodyfat. My offseason
>weight was about 225.
And just out of curiousity, and what would your accurately taped arm size
of been? <I know some people are groaning about bringing this up again>
Measurements tend to be misleading (even when done accurately). Par
example, the differences between my ex-training partner and myself.
EVERYBODY seems to think he is "bigger" than me, when in fact I weigh
about 20lbs more of muscle mass.
When we once took measurements, to my great surprise his chest measurement
was greater than mine. I was surprised because it *looks* like my chest
is much bigger than his (and my pecs and lats are much bigger). The
reason? He's one of the "big-boned" people and I'm "small-boned". It all
came down to ribcage sizes.
I also thought that his arms were bigger than mine, but the tape said
otherwise. Weird, because his arms *look* bigger, but then again he has
the larger bone structure. I estimate that if he "caught up" to me in
terms of training time (excluding all the inefficient workouts I did
when I was younger) he would be bigger than me.
Damn genetics.
So all is not as it appears to be.... <double hint>

I have 52" chest 18" arms but a 36" waist and about 15% bodyfat.
If I got by waist below 32 I would probably lose several inches on chest
an at least an inch on arms.
I lift with a guy who (is now 47 yrs old) use to be able to put a
glass of water on his chest. It's still freaky. He had a 32" waist
and a 52" chest and 18.5" arms and definitely much less then 10% body fat
although I am guessing from pictures on the bodyfat. He was all natural
and everyone gawked at him like a freak. He used to jerk suit salesmen by
asking for an off the rack suit with a 20" differential. I've never seen
anyone in person with such a differential. This guy was 5'9" and weighed
185 and beched way over 400.
People with 20" or more differential are VERY VERY rare.
Especially naturals!.
