Hi All,

My cousin has asked me for some advice re losing weight. She currently works
out at home 3-4 times a week doing about 30 min cardio and 20 mins of
weights but she has put on 3 or 4 kg in the past 12 months. She asked if I
think it would be a good idea for her to get a gym membership and hit the
weights a bit harder. I advised her to look at her nutrition seriously first
then consider more free weights. I suggested she begin by writing down
EVERYTHING she eats for the next week or so then I will write up a routine
for her. She said she'd be willing to do 4 sessions a week from home. She
has a treadmill, dumbbells, barbells and a bench.

Any suggestions for a routine and/or nutrition?

Steph.

Your cousin needs to find someone that can stand her stench and give her
lots of sex every day. Sex burns up tons of calories, and if she is getting
her fat **** banged, it is less time for her to sit around eating donuts.

After a while, she will be amazed at the results and maybe you can do her
too and she can get passed around to all your friends in order to maximize
her weight loss efforts.

I also recommend that she take lots of pictures and post them on the
internet.

Have you checked her glutues maximus and upper/lower legs? Perhaps she
gained muscle.

Lots of legs and back work. That burns the most calories.

And most women gain, if they are lucky, muscles in that area.

Hmmm.

If the glutues expands than it might be harder to get into those jeans.

i would suggest you tell to keep lifting, and cut back on the carbs.

That was my intention but also longer (~50 minutes) on the treadmill -
perhaps some HIIT if she likes it. I'll wait to see the results of what she
is eating but from what she has described, there's too many carbs and fats
of the not-so-good variety in there.

Give her some COCK and if she doesn't like it then introduce her to your
favorite girlfriend. Either way she will start getting the exercise that she
needs so her fat ass can slim down.

Why don't you let your retarded friend post here and then you can let her
write what she wants to? Could it be that "you" are the fat ass?

You are a lot smarter than the retards that work at the nearby supermarket.
You are in a class of retards that I would rate as top notch.

> She says she has put fat on. Clothes getting tighter etc...

Just a guess, but I would say that she's gaining muscle at a faster
rate than she's losing fat. This isn't always a bad thing (in my case,
that was the goal), but she probably has different goals than I did.
This would explain the tighter fitting clothes; the muscle under the
fat is bigger, making the overall girth larger but still covered in
fat. This is what we used to call "hard fat" when I was a kid.

The key word here is: calories. To oversimplify it, in order to lose
fat you have to burn more calories than you bring in, and the bigger
the difference is, the faster you will lose weight. Of course, muscle
mass requires calories, too, so there has to be a healthy medium if
you want to keep the muscle you're gaining.

This is why cardio helps you to lose fat. Cardio burns calories, so
realistically, you could do 20 minutes of treadmill to burn 150
calories, then eat a candy bar, and never gain or lost a pound. To be
more technical, anything you do to increase your blood pressure will
speed up your metabolism, which is what really burns the calories
(which is why green tea and other thermogenics will help with weight
loss), but I'm trying not to get too technical.

The trick is to figure out exactly how many calories your muscles
need, and only bring in that. She should still continue lifting
weights and cardio, but she absolutely MUST decrease her calorie
intake. Your suggestion of writing down everything that she eats is
perfect; keeping a food diary makes it a lot easier to keep track of
calories, and when you have to write it down it's a lot harder to
justify eating that donut.

I don't know how big she is, but my first instinct would be to
decrease the daily caloric intake by about 10% for a couple of weeks,
and see how that goes. If there's not a significant improvement,
decrease by another 10%, and so on. You don't want to make too big of
a jump in calorie drop, otherwise she'll be hungry all the time and
lose more muscle than fat.

IMHO, there are 3 main reason for joining a gym:

1. Encouragement of others in your same position. It's nice to be in a
place where people keep saying "great job."

2. You can get ideas of lifting from people that have been in your
position and improved. This is tricky, though, because you will get
more bad advice than good!

3. You will have access to better equipment than you probably have at
home.

Personally, I don't care for a gym because I'm a short guy, and it's
intimidating to lift weights around a bunch of 7' tall, 350lb steroid
freaks. But, girls are different, and I can't pretend to understand
them! ;-)

You know, in retrospect I realize that there's a very important
question here that none of us have asked. When you talk about her
losing weight, exactly how much weight are you talking about? If she
weighs 120lbs and is wanting to be 115, that's a big difference from
her being 250! Everything I said above is assuming that she's
significantly overweight.

Which is why all woman should squat and deadlift. To get that "hard."
Yeah...

Eh, no. Dont do that around here. Dont get too technical.

I really don't think so. She does minimum resistance training. She does 30
mins of cardio and 20 mins of light weights work 3 times a week She really
is just eating too much of the wrong kind of calories I would say. And she
should increase both the number of times she works out and the length of her
workouts.

I don't know exactly but she's probably 140-150 and would like to loose 10
or 15.

Pete,
Who were you responding to? This guy HAS to be a moron. Does he really think
that high blood pressure makes you lean? I too have NEVER seen a 7" 350 lb
steroid user in a gym. I have been in and out of gyms since 1974 or so too.
I have never understood why people are taken aback by guys with large
muscles. Granted, there are some who carry on like morons in the gym, but
most top bodybuilders who are pros act like pros in the gym.

No offense, Robert, but it seems counterproductive to call someone a
moron (presumably, me). Someone can be wrong, and I sort of thought
that the purpose of any newsgroup was to provide support, guidance,
and maybe learn something, but name-calling just leads to senseless
fighting.

FWIW, I did not say that high blood pressure makes you lean. I briefly
mentioned thermogenics, which is quite a bit different.

You've never been to my local gyms! I'm not going to state my
location, since it's a relatively small county, but we used to be well
known for professional and semi-pro wrestling. Even though that has
pretty much gone away, we still have at least one group of juicers at
each gym (there are only 3 gyms in my county, including the YMCA) that
either used to be in the show, or are still trying to get back in to
it.

To be honest, these guys aren't as intimidating as I make them out to
be, but when they're in groups they do tend to be overly aggressive.
And there's nothing worse for your ego than maxing out, then before
breaking the weights down have someone say "no, leave it there, I can
start with that." (That hasn't happened in awhile, but it didn't
happen once)
