Hi,
I recently (August, 2002) had gastric bypass surgery and lost 89 pounds so far
(starting out at 250 lbs). My doctor has always told me, since when I first got
the surgery, to start getting some exercise...but I've put it off, mainly
because I was satisfied losing 2-6 pounds a week without exercise, and because
I found it hard to work out being as heavy as I was (only someone else heavy
can understand that, how hard it is lugging around so much weight). Now I've
started exercising - stretches, weights and walking/jogging 1.5 miles 5 times
a week. Well, I'm amazed to discover I haven't lost one pound since I started
exercising (2 and a half weeks ago), though my doctor (and everyone else) told
me exercising really speeds up the weight loss. This is the first time since
the surgery I haven't lost any weight. And no, I haven't changed my eating
habits in the slightest. What's up with that? Am I doing something wrong? Will
the weight start coming off again? I hate to think I have to go back to *not*
exercising to lose more weight. Any advice? Thanks in advance.

Hope you haven't starting eating more because you think you owe it to yourself
since you have been moving around more (you say no, so scratch that).

Could be you have been putting on some muscle. That weighs more than fat. But I
don't think you would put on 2-6 pounds of muscle in a week. Wish I could.

Could be you have hit a plateau on weight loss that just happened to be at the same
time that you started exercising.

Don't stop the exercising. That isn't the problem...guaranteed. Give it a little
more time to kick in. You're down to a point that a little extra walking and at a
bit faster pace probably would be ok. You doing this workout program under
guidance of a trainer?

And, by the way, congratulations.

Read Suzanne Somers' book.
Honest to God!

It's all about sugar, and hormones. It works.
