How much electrical jiggery-pokery needs to be done to swap out fluoro
for LED tubes? Is it as simple as "remove the ballast & wire in the
LEDs"? I would have loved to do that at the old house bathroom, and
the situation may arise again.

Also LEDs tolerate on-off cycles with aplomb, whereas fluoros have a
problem with them.

I'm guessing it's flying at all. The FAA has some bizarre rules, and
those areas pretty much require air travel. OK theoretically you could
take a cruise to some of them, but that's not going to happen.

If an item has a Lithium Ion battery in it, then the transportation
issues are very ugly. For about six months the US Postal Serice
wouldn't carry _any_ package with one in it to any destination
outside the 48 States and DC... including Canada and Mexico, because
of air safety regs. This applied no matter how small and well
packaged the Li-Ion cell was.
Yes, this meant that you couldn't legally use the USPS to ship
your kid in Montreal her cellphone. Or, for that matter,
a laptop to your colleague in Remulac.
Or even an iPod.

consider these cheap pads a subscription rather than a purchase?),
three iPods, at least four cell phones, several pre-iPod music
players, and a sony book reader in the mail. I've also bought at
least two laptop batteries that weren't yet in a device.
Oh, and two packs of cell phone batteries. One pack of two arrived
dead (possibly from freezing. The package was left on my doorstep in
-35 degree weather)..
