Legal hassles of company that failed...

I am thinking of starting a sole proprietorship company (in
UK). I am planning to register a company, have a website, business
card etc and then approach people/small businesses for (software)
projects.
My question is with regards to problems arising when a company fails.
Assuming I have no debts are there any legal problems or paper work
etc I have to do for the rest of my life or can I just close the
company and move on with my life.
To put it more clearly :
1) Suppose I actually do nothing with the company and get no projects,
abd I just ignore the company and go back to a job. Are there any
negatives/ legal problems/long term legal headaches etc associated
with a company that doesn't function?. Should I close it?. Do paper
work every year ?
2) I am not a UK citizen but have a work permit. Suppose I leave UK
after the company fails, would I have to continue do any paper work
after I leave UK?.
It seems so easy to form a company in UK. I am just wondering if there
are any technicalities to worry about or shall I just start a company
and forget it (if it comes to that).
