The service must include the actual performance of the
backup using their own equipment (ie: portable Tape Backup
device) and personnel, transport and storage of the data media
in an appropriate fire and security protected premises. In
addition the service must provide an associated disaster recovery
support service on an if required basis.
I would be very interested in communicating with anyone
offering such a service or alternatively with anyone who may
think such a service may be of benefit to their business
activity.

: Is anyone aware of a business which provides a combined Data Backup
I was thinking about this idea a while back, with a twist. I was
thinking of outfitting each client with a 14.4Kbd modem and using
software to dial a central host to transmit a compressed file containing
the backup. The advantage is that you are not limited to using
(comparatively expensive) labor. The disadvantages are the slow data
transfer rate and the modem expense/customer (as opposed to one portable
tape backup unit/backup person). At the time, it did not appear to be
price competitive with each site having its own tape backup unit, but I
haven't crunched the numbers in a year or two.
