Not positive about websites, but I would like to mention a CD-Rom
package that my husband found at the local Electronic Boutique software
store. The package is titled "Art And Music", and is published by Zane.
In case you're interested, the ISBN is 1-57573-027-8
The four-CD set cost Joe only $20 (twenty). He thought at first price
was in error (these were purchased two years ago, and the then-current
programs were much pricier for even a single CD), but that was the
correct price... Go figure. (*Maybe* just at that store, due to low
demand....aarrggh...though that wasn't the impression he got)
While certainly not all-emcompassing, he finds the set offers a very
good introduction to each period covered (the four periods are Medieval,
Renaissance, Baroque, and Eighteenth Century....he went back out and
bought the two additional individual CD's -- Impressionism and Modern
Era, at the outrageous price of $10 each <G>.) Each CD has a
presentation that lasts about 40 minutes, plus the option of accessing
questions and explanations on the ideas, a supplementary Encyclopedia,
and a text file showing the provenance of each artistic work.
Another "plus" is that these are Power CD's, meaning they boot directly
from the CD without needing to install onto a not-overly-generous-size
Hard Drive at school. (Compatible with Mac as well as PC).
The obvious "downside" is that the teacher needs a classroom computer,
with CD=Rom drive. Yikes.
Anyway, just thought I'd pass that on. He bought them specifically for
a Junior High 9th grade class (English) in an effort to offer his kids a
Humanities outlook to literature, art, and music. There we go, trying
to get culture into the hooligans, eh?

My kids have found many great music sites that may help touch on music
