The University of Abertay Dundee summer programme in English for Academic
Purposes focuses on giving participants the communication they will need
throughout their academic careers. But it does more than that. It offers you
the opportunity to experience the various sorts of learning situations you
will meet during your studies - lectures, seminars, tutorials, assignments
and projects - and to ask questions such as:

      What do lecturers really value in a report?

      What is the best way to start an assignment?

      How can I get the most out of textbooks and lectures?

The English for Academic Purposes summer program offers participants a variety
of classes and seminars, as well as tutorials. The core language skills course
is compulsory and runs for 15 hours a week. In addition to this, participants
may choose two from the list of offered seminars (subject to registration
numbers), and will have tutorials to assist them in preparing the project that
forms part of the course assessment. This program structure has been designed
specifically to give participants experience in dealing with intellectual
challenge in a second language. For details of the seminars, see below

Business Concepts -for participants who need to communicate key Business ideas
and theories effectively

Advanced Conversation Skills - conversation practice in formal and informal
academic contexts

Critical Thinking interpreting problems, and generating solutions to problems
in case study questions

Digital Study Skills - using new technologies as study aids

IELTS preparation - an examination preparation course
